Paranormal State: The Complete Season One

Very professional and sincere
I have been very impressed with Paranormal State for many reasons. They do more than go into a situation and find evidence of spirits, a haunting, etc., they then try to solve the problem. They don't just say - "yeah, you've got a ghost, bye now." They help the family understand what is happening and why, they help the spirit move on (or not, if the family decides letting it remain is the right thing to do). It is all handled with sincerity and professionalism and great decorum. When they do "dead time" and ask questions (hoping to get answers on the EVP recorder), they don't bombard the entity with questions, they ask a question, then give it an opportunity to respond. They don't joke around when on site. They don't yak to each other. They focus totally on what they are doing. They are so polite and caring. Chip Coffey, the medium they bring in on some of the cases, is wonderful. He is very talented and I like him a lot. Although I do enjoy Ghost Hunters, too, the two...

Paranormal State definitely worth watching!
What makes this show different is the college people who are investigating all these unusual occurences. Ryan has had experiences with the paranormal and ghosts all his life and he's a great "leader" of this group. He takes this stuff very seriously and I like the fact that he calls Lorraine Warren and also the Catholic Church into the most disturbing and troublesome cases. Ghost Hunters or TAPS are great but they don't help to free the spirits from their earthly presence. They don't clear out a demonic spirit or hold exorcisms to help homeowners which is usually needed. Ryan and his team will do that. It is absolutely amazing how many spirits and entities roam our world afraid or unable to cross over into the next. And Demonic hauntings - extremely scary and dangerous. Keep up the good work Ryan!

Wow, this is bad
This show appealed to me as a 'Ghost Hunter' fan. Wow, was that a mistake. While the 'Ghost Hunters' enter a site wearing their skepticism and ready to debunk anything they can, THIS program has college kids who go into the site assuming it is haunted, possibly cursed with demons. They don't even attempt to look for other explanations, they just sit around deciding whether to call a priest to exorcise the place.

Seriously, this is not a good program, save your time and money...

The Arizona Diamondbacks 2001 World Series Collector's Edition

5 star series....3 star DVD collection ..a 4 star review
Hi Folks, I'm not a Yankee or Diamondback supporter per se...but this was a historic and terrific series so I picked it up immediately and have to report that this SET is a let down.

Unlike many of the other series sets this ONLY has the complete games from the series, which given that it was a full seven is acceptable but something more of the lead up would have been better for context.

Also..DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR 1 DISC 2001 MLB DVD...its not on this set..
the bonus feature they tout as "Destiny In The Desert" (2001 Official World Series Film) isn't the hour plus movie but a scant 9 Minutes!! what kind of "Film" is that? Featurette...maybe...but calling that a film is ridiculous...its about as long as the championship acceptance feature..
the bonus interviews Don't feature Schilling or Johnson?

Hey..if you are a Diamondbacks fan ...you have to have this...but its nothing compared to the 1988 Dodger set or the 1977 Yankee sets...but more...

I loved it!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching all seven games from the 2001 World Series. I hadn't seen them since watching them live when I lived in Arizona back then. Oh, the memories...some bad, some wonderful.

Every bit as exciting as when it happened
I've seen replays of the ninth inning of Game 7 a hundred times, and am still on the edge of my seat in anticipation when Gonzo steps to the plate. Great set, fun to watch (definitely more-so if you are a Dbacks fan or a Yankee hater). Gonzo, Gracie, Beautiful Steve Finley, David "Dayum-he's-hot" Delluci, Reggie, Jay, Randy, Curt and the rest ... all qualify for "Mr. November" status in my MLB record book.

Great gift to give with some tickets for opening day!

Shiva Rea: Flow Yoga for Beginners

good, but NOT for beginners
This is a good yoga video. It is well shot with good production values and clear narration. If one is already familiar with hatha yoga, one will not have trouble following along and doing Shiva Rea's routines. It is good for a "video workout partner," and gives you the choice of watching the set without narration.

Ms. Rea is obviously competent, talented, and very adept at yoga. She is quite attractive and demonstrates the overall forms and their "flow" well. The routines are modifications or variations of more traditional forms of yoga, but not drastically so. Some of the forms reminded me of qigong.

The set of exercises on this DVD would constitute a healthy program for someone already in fairly good shape, but I seriously doubt that a couch potato with no understanding of yoga could benefit from it. If you are elderly or have any kind of physical issue, there is no instruction aimed at helping you do the forms or modify them for your needs.

I have...

Flow Yoga For Everyone
I was so glad to get another new Shiva DVD less than 5 months since her last one. This DVD was filmed in Kauai , Hawaii as well as her next DVD's to be released this year and next year. This practice is aimed for beginners but everyone can enjoy it , the whole DVD is 70 minutes and has 4 segments (and savasana) that can be done seperately:
1. Foundation Flow - approx 14 min, Shiva starts with some breathing exercises on a rock near a beautiful waterfall and continues with simple poses like cat , cobra and some variations.
2. Beginner's Backbend Flow -approx. 20 min, there is a change of scenery and Shiva is in a beautiful garden with a lot of trees near a lake.
It is actually mainly standing poses - she prepares you for backbends in this practice with some lunge variations , chair with twists ,side bends, half splits and cobra variations and finally bow and camel. This segment might be quite challenging for true beginners but she shows easier modifications for most of...

Great Moving Yoga with Lovely Scenery
I have another hatha yoga DVD that was filmed in Hawaii, and it is just so nice to have the soothing sounds, beautiful backgrounds and gentle lighting of Hawaii helping you relax into your yoga poses. Shiva Rea's voice is smooth and encouraging, and while she is extremely flexible, she gives you hope as you go that, while you might not be limber right now, you can get that way with practice.

This tape only has four real parts. You can either watch them chapter by chapter, or all in a row. You can also choose to watch them with music only, or with her verbal prompts.

The sections each have their own location. Each is quite lovely! You get 15 minutes of basic poses, 20 minutes of a lot of standing backbends, 10 minutes of more relaxing stretches, and the 25 minutes of a long repetitive sequence. Then there is a VERY super-short relaxation at the end.

I think I was spoiled by my other DVD, because with the other one there are multiple hour-long sessions...

Mannequin & Mannequin 2: On the Move

Mannequin
The Mannequin movies are among my Favorites. Andrew McCarthy and William Ragsdale are the leading men and both were perfectly cast for the role as well as were their female mannequin actresses.

In both movies Hollywood ties the heroes together and makes for a truly enjoyable comedy/love story.

If you love a movie where the good guy gets the girl and lives happily ever after you'll love these movies.

DOUBLE THE FUN
Kim Cattrall,& Andrew McCarthy are great together, this a very funny movie. And part is with a different couple but just as funny.

Mannequin
I love this movie and its so great that it is not only the first movie but also the second, all in one box!

Juno (Two-Disc Special Edition with Digital Copy)

A Complex Tale Told with Humor, Tenderness, and Simplicity
Teenage pregnancy is frequently a starting point for myriad philosophical arguments: some see it as a major problem, some see it as an argument for the need of early teaching of contraceptive technique and sex education, some see it as a reason for championing abortion, and some see it as a piece of life that confronts families in both positive and negative ways. JUNO is a beautifully written (Diablo Cody) and directed (Jason Reitman) version of unplanned pregnancy offered by a splendid ensemble cast: it is a movie that could modify the sociologic outlook of many people in a very strong fashion.

Juno (Ellen Page) is sixteen and talks her best friend Bleek (Michael Cera) into having sex: the result is a surprise pregnancy that Juno shares with her girlfriend Leah (Olivia Thirley) and the store clerk Rollo (Rainn Wilson) even before informing Bleek, a likable kid who seems fairly flat about the situation. After discarding abortion as a viable solution, Juno informs her...

Two-Disc Special Edition Chock Full o' Extras!
Juno was Little Miss Sunshine of 2007 - the little independent film that could. Once the studio realized that it had a successful crowd-pleaser on its hands, the film was promoted from the art-house circuit to the multiplexes. Actress Ellen Page and first-time screenwriter Diablo Cody became the film's breakout stars garnering the lion's share of critical raves and awards with Page getting an Independent Spirit Award and Cody an Academy Award. Now that all of the dust has settled, Juno can be reassessed to see if it really has the staying power and substance to cut through all of the hype and stand-up to the inevitable backlash.

There is an audio commentary by director Jason Reitman and screenwriter Diablo Cody. The first thing that you notice when listening to Cody talking is how well Ellen Page mimicked her way of speaking. Reitman tends to dominate the track and, not surprisingly, talks about...

Wondering what "...with digital copy" means?
It means the bonus disc includes a digital copy of the film that can be automatically downloaded to a laptop or iPod. Seems obvious after you know it, huh? The second disc also includes some extra bonus features not on the single-disc DVD -- four featurettes titled "Way Beyond 'Our' Maturity Level: Juno - Leah - Bleeker," "Diablo Cody Is Totally Boss," "Jason Reitman For Shizz" and "Honest To Blog! Creating Juno."

SpongeBob SquarePants - Pest of the West

Episodes
7 episodes including a double-length episode! Episodes include:
1. Pest of the West
2. To Save a Squirrel
3. Battle of Bikini Bottom
4. Pat No pay
5. The Krusty Plate
6. 20,000 Leauges under the sea
7. The Inmates of Summer

Good but not perfect...
This DVD was very good, and I enjoyed it throughly. But, The title episode, Pest of the West, seemed a bit rushed and not up to normal standards. also, Th Krusty Plate and Pat No Pay are both only half length, and did not create big laughs for me. The special features are very good, with some very short "episodes". If you love Spongebob, buy this right away. If you don't, you are better off with some of the first DVDs, like Nautical Nonsence.

Cute movie, lots of extra episodes.
This DVD was great, you get so much for your money when you look at all the episodes you get with it. A must buy, especially if you have kids.

Human Footprint

visually impressive, lacking in substantial content
I teach high school science and 100 level science classes at the local university. I showed the dvd for both groups with a worksheet I made up for them (anyone in education knows that you must give the students something to work on relating to the movie they're watching, or else they won't pay attention). It was visually impressive to see the amounts of "stuff" we go through in a lifetime, and it's a good movie because students have no idea what these amounts really are; they cannot fathom how immense 43,000 soda cans is. However that's really all there was to this dvd-they show a product (or activity), explain (briefly)how it is constructed, or shipped, and then they actually display the amount with the number (literaly they laid out 43,000+ soda cans in a parking lot). There was no explanation of the impact or problems associated with the levels of consumption or waste. And after 30-40 minutes (the dvd is 1.5hrs) it gets well, kind of boring. So good for providing the visual...

Amazing Video
The "Human Footprint" was first aired on the National Geographic Channel earlier this year. It is a graphic portrayal of the quantities of stuff that an average American consumes over the course of a lifetime.

The criticism of our lifestyle is implicit. No one says what all this is doing to the planet, but it quickly becomes obvious that enormous quantities of stuff must be manufactured, consumed, and discarded in order to support the high standard of living that we enjoy. You only have to look at the herd of pigs, tons of potatoes, or football field expanse of bread to be amazed at what we consume.

The story is told with a sense of humor. The kitchen filling with fruit is funny. However, the question that comes to mind is whether we will always have the resources to keep this up. The inventory shown by National Geographic is food for thought.

Another interesting video on the subject of the consumer economy is the 20-minute "The Story of Stuff."...

First Fascinating...Then Boring....Then Irritating
This film tracks the life of a boy and girl from childhood through old age.

At various stages of life their consumption of various resources is examined in great detail.

The early displays of actual counts of what they use are at first fascinating and impressive. Gee...I thought... someone went to lot of effort to assemble and set up over 43,000 soft drink cans.

Then as the statistical bombardment continues, one begins to wonder are these numbers really correct. Each stat is accompanied with yet another visual display of what the number means. OK...I get it...I don't need to see the actual number of toothbrushes I will use in a lifetime.

Finally, the whole experience becomes irritating, if there is a point here the film is not making it clear (at least for me). Even small uses become large values over the 77 years of the average lifespan.

Are we supposed to apologize for being alive? That was the way I felt a few times...

Boston Celtics: 1985-1986 NBA Champions - Sweet Sixteen (Collector's Edition)

Missing Game 5 fight
First let me say the set is great but it is not complete and unedited. The only reason to watch Game 5 was the fight in which
Ralph Sampson and Jerry Sichting went at it. Unfortuantley it has been
edited out. I know the NBA doesn't want to promote violence but the
fight was a major part of an otherwise unexciting series. It should
have been included. Otherwise the set is great.

Not including the fight in game 5 is horrendous
How can they possibly say that this is the complete series as broadcast in its entirety? Total garbage that they edited out the fight. It happened NBA so get over it. Absolutely ridiculous.

Very good Finals set
Presentation of the product: Each game is on one disc, all inside a well presented multidisc case. I would rather have each game on a single disc slim case but this format really saves space on your library.

Game 1: Complete game. Running time: 96 minutes. No pregame or postgame shows. No extras. Good image quality but a bit pixelated (8/10) watching it on a 40" LED TV. The Celtics strike first but the highlight of the game is Akeem Olajuwon exploding for 25 first half points.

Game 2: Complete game with some minor shortcuts (for example, the time between a foul and the free throws is cut off a number of times). Running time: 84 minutes. No pregame or postgame shows. No extras. Image quality remains the same as Game 1, but this one has some audio issues in the 2nd quarter when many times the voice of the commentators turns too low. The day before this contest Larry Bird received his third consecutive MVP trophy and he really showed why in this one, scoring 31...

Gundam Seed Destiny Final Plus

A true end to one of the best Gundam series's ever.
This movie is everything the last episode of Gundam Seed Destiny should have been. All the great action, drama, and characters come colliding in one huge climactic battle. And different from the final episode, as the action comes to a close it reveals the future for the Gundam Pilots, Zaft, Orb, and the Earth. If you are a Gundam Seed fan, and felt the final episode of Seed Destiny left without closure, then this is a must have for your collection.

Finally ... closure on a great series.
If you've got volumes #1-#12, you already know you need this. There is a brief refresher, then it jumps right into the action and finally closes things off ... until the next incarnation! It gets 5 stars just because I kept looking and looking for a volume #13 - it couldn't possible end with #12 - and FINALLY found this and gave it a shot. It hit the spot and gave proper closure to the series. Enjoy.

BGreat but not worth 22$
This is the Extended episode to Gundam Seed Destiny, for those not in the know. But while it wraps up everything and extends the already awesome fight scenes. The reason this gets low marks in my books is the price.

Seriously 47mins for 22$..you can get 2h30m long blu rays on sale for that..even anime blue rays on sale or normal for that.

I highly recommend this to any fan of the series..but shop around for a better rate

Roswell: Season 2

Roswell has touched me forever!!!
Only Roswell Fanatics new and old may be able to understand my post...I have never been a "Fanatic" of ANY show and could never really understand why people could get so worked up about fictional shows...until Roswell...I am 25yrs old and have lived a pretty safe & boring life (my bar & clubbing days don't seem that interesting anymore). When the first episode aired, I watched it and was instantly hooked!!! You get so immersed in this show while watching it that everything else fades away until the hour is over. I actually felt like going to visit New Mexico, see what it is like there. In a stupid way, I wanted to visit the "crashdown" café and "see" Maria, Liz, Michael, Max, etc. I wanted to research on the theory behind the real Roswell story. I wanted to know EVERYTHING Roswellian. I finally began to see that there is a bigger and more incredible world out there. It made me a believer that there are thing in this universe that doesn't have an explanation to it and...

"What's so great about normal?"
This TV series is anything but normal, but what's so great about normal anyway? As any true Roswellian fan would respond, "Absolutely nothing!". "Roswell" was the first TV show I've ever know that had this amazing balance of sci-fi action and drama (especially in the first two seasons). Why? Because the actors pulled it off! The talented cast portrayed sincere emotional performances within a web of confusing, far-reached circumstances that made their stories and romances so real. This show does not only deal with the every day dilemmas of love-angst teens, but issues surrounding the aliens: Max, Isabelle, Tess and Michael and their search for their "real home". What these aliens discover is that home is not necessarily where you are from, or what one thinks is best for you, home is where you make it. Season 2, explores this journey with the aliens and the humans, where relationships are tested, friendships and trusts are destroyed, but most importantly,...

Self-Slapping
I never saw an episode of Roswell at all during it's WB or UPN tenures. At that time, I was working a job that usually occupied my nights, so unless it was Buffy, Ally McBeal or Friends (or something like South Park or Sex And The City that was on cable and repeated during post-prime time hours), chances are I didn't watch it if it aired between 1998-2002.

About a year ago, I was bored and found my roommate watching a marathon Roswell on Sci-Fi, he knew the show from it's WB days, he talked me into watching an episode with him... and as he got ready for work, I found myself watching the entire 5 hour block of episodes... and then I found out season one was shortly coming to DVD. I kept taping the Sci-Fi daily marathons and bought season 1 asap, and I was able to finish the entire season in barely over a week. I've seen all 61 episodes and without hesitation would say that after Buffy (my all time favorite series), Roswell is definately the second best show WB has...

Nuestro Cine Clasico: Distinto Amanecer/La Perla

Two classics of Mexican Cinema
This DVD brings us two classics of Mexican cinema, DISTINTO AMANECER (Julio Bracho, 1943) and LA PERLA (Emilio Fernández, 1946). Considering the age of these films, both copies are in very good condition, although the sound is not always perfect. The main actors (Pedro Armendáriz & Andrea Palma; Pedro Armendáriz & María Elena Marqués) are all superb. The cinematography, by Gabriel Figueroa in both instances, is nothing short of stunning. A treat for those who value a great period in Mexican cinema.

Distinto Amanecer
Distinto Amanecer is one of those movies you get drawn into. Atmospheric as hell and excellent performances from Armendariz & Palma. It is unfortunate the sound track goes "off track" on a couple of scenes and kind of makes one lose the movie magic for a few minutes. Other than that, it's a great film.

My mistake
I ordered this DVD under the impression that the copy of LA PERLA on the disk had English subtitles. I am not attempting to return it; my son has a friend that he can give it to.

However, I would like to know if a subtitled version of this film does exist. Can you give me any information on that? And if there is such a version, can you name a source for me? Thank you for your attention to this request.

Burke's Law: Season 1 - Volume 1 (First 16 Episodes)

A Unique and Funny Cop Show
The 64 black and white hour-long episodes of "Burke's Law" were originally broadcast from 1963-65 on ABC. The show then morphed into "Amos Burke, Secret Agent" for another 17 episodes during the 1965-66 season. And one episode "Who Killed the Jackpot" served as the introduction of the "Honey West" characters played by Anne Francis and John Ericson.

Gene Barry played police captain Amos Burke, who headed up homicide while maintaining a lavish lifestyle; not because he was on the take but because he was already extremely rich and was just working for whatever intrinsic value the job provided. This was the main hook or novelty of the show, which was a weekly showcase of his lavish lifestyle (chauffeured limo with fully stocked bar, mansion, and a host of gorgeous women clamoring for his affections). Although technically a mystery-adventure series there was a significant comedy element generated by the reactions of his detectives and his superior to Burke's displays of...

First Class Show, First Class Release!
A decade before Aaron Spelling gave us a long list of big-name celeb guests on shows like "The Love Boat" and "Fantasy Island" he was serving them up on this great 1963-65 detective show "Burke's Law", which starred Gene Barry as the suave millionaire playboy police captain solving a murder from which a half dozen big named guest stars were among the suspects.

VCI's release of the first half of Season 1 (16 hour long episodes) is first-rate, especially since they've never handled a TV series before for release. The episodes clearly come from the original 35 mm masters, and while not as sharp as the prints we see on CBS/Paramount DVDs, they look very good. Original commercials from the film prints have been presented as a supplement, similar to Image's later releases of "Naked City" while the end of each episode retains the preview for the following week's show narrated by Barry.

VCI is committed to doing the entire run of the show (including its reimagined...

Company: A Musical Comedy

Wonderful DVD Extras Complement a Sparkling Update of Sondheim's Most Accessible Musical
Marry me a little,
Love me just enough.
Cry but not too often,
Play but not too rough.
Keep a tender distance
So we'll both be free.
That's the way it ought to be....

Only Stephen Sondheim could come up with such sophisticated couplets to a love song as disquieting as the beautiful "Marry Me a Little". I was very fortunate to have seen the enthralling 2006 production at the Ethel Barrymore Theater last season, and I'm thrilled it has been captured for posterity on DVD as part of PBS's "Great Performances" series. There is something supremely ironic about how a 37-year old show, already revived twice, can feel fresher than most Broadway musicals written today. However, when the music reflects Sondheim at his most accomplished with performers so adept, it becomes a moot point, even though several of the songs here have been inescapable at karaoke bars for years from the lips...

A beautiful production, get it for Raul Esparza
Company is one of my favorite Sondheim shows so far (the others being Sweeney Todd and Sunday in the Park with George). It's a show that requires good acting and showcases outstanding acting. The ensemble numbers are beautiful. The Original Broadway Cast recording sounds very 1970s-ish, but the revival orchestration has updated the music to sound modern and classy. The musical has three of my favorite songs: "Being Alive," "The Ladies Who Lunch," and "Getting Married Today." The show is funny and witty, but it carries a strong message, too. Marriage, in fact any kind of commitment, is a compromise. It sucks that when we choose one path, we close many others, but that's what life is about. Life is about making choices. There's nothing wrong with Bobby being a bachelor. The problem is that it's all he knows. He's never tried anything else. He's never made a choice; he's always waiting to see what other people do. Joanne's stinging number "The Ladies Who Lunch" reminds Bobby (and the...

In good "Company."
I saw the original on Broadway way back in 1970, and the memory of that wonderful production was still on my mind as I saw this latest version on PBS earier this year. I was astounded. It was as fresh and wonderful as the original, but in a totally original way. Mr. Esparza is the best Bobby of the bunch and the rest of the cast is simply wonderful. Nobody does it better than Sondheim, that's for sure; this score sounds as original today as it did in 1970. The only drawback, and this is just for those of us who remember the original Joanne (that perfect freak of talent, Elaine Stritch) will never be equaled. That aside, this DVD is a must for those who love theatre, musicals and Sondheim. They've finally figured out how to film a live show without ruining the theatrical experience.

The Fall Of The Roman Empire (Three-Disc Limited Collector's Edition)

Sweep, Spectacle, and Sophia Loren!
1964's "The Fall of the Roman Empire" was the last of Samuel Bronston's 'epic trilogy', three remarkable films ("Empire", "El Cid", and "55 Days in Peking"), that stand alone in their sheer opulence and spectacle. Sadly, "Empire" would fail at the box office, forcing Bronston to shut down much of his Madrid studio, but he was justifiably proud of the film, nonetheless; it tackled a seemingly impossible subject (the collapse of Imperial Rome) on a grand scale, with intelligence and a surprising compassion. The time frame of the film (the era of Caesars Marcus Aurelius and Commodus) would, in fact, prove so richly dramatic that Ridley Scott would return to it in "Gladiator", which, in many ways copies "Empire" (and would win the 'Best Picture' Oscar, to boot!)

The back story of "Empire" is every bit as remarkable as "El Cid"; this had been a pet project of Bronston's for years, and with the backing of the Spanish government, and brilliant director Anthony Mann on board, he...

Before there was Gladiator ...
At long last the epic FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE is becoming available in the aftermath of the release of EL CID. This was the movie that destroyed Samuel Bronston's studio. Much of the story would later be the basis of GLADIATOR. A terrific cast: Stephen Boyd as Livius, Sophia Loren (was there ever a more beautiful star?) as Lucilla, Christopher Plummer (in a wonderful over the top performance) as Comodus and Sir Alec Guinness as Marcus Arilias. To this add John Ireland, Omar Sharif, Anthony Quayle, James Mason and Mel Ferrer. Colossal sets and set piece battles with thousands of extras that today could only be done by CGI, this is an epic in every sense. A failure at the box office in it's time. The author, John Logan, of the GLADITOR screenplay says he was unaware of this movie when he was hired by Ridley Scott. Perhaps, the stories both use the same chapter in history and real persons. Both have Comodus die in hand to hand combat with the protagonist. Neither is true but...

Best film Oscar for GLADIATOR? No kidding.
Martin Scorsese once said about THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE that it has the beauty of a lost art. True, Hollywood can never film a film of this grandiose scale (nowadays CGI would replace those hundred of extras, but CGI can never be as good as the real thing) that deals with profound themes, usually considered to be "commercially unnatractive". Still, if cinema is an art form (and the Oscar people pretentiously call themselves Academy of Motion Picture "ART" and Science), then they should sometime try to make a film like that, or at least honour them when they are made, instead of praizing such well-crafted nonsense like GLADIATOR. Hollywood has forgotten its rich history and heritage. What a shame.

THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE is an intense, powerful drama about corruption of power. Anthony Mann's meticulous, sharp-edged, and in this case extremely cold-blooded direction powerfully points out how the Roman Empire, at the height of its power and glory,...

Square Pegs - The Complete Series

Music GONE!
They took the cheap way out and didn't license most of the great 80s tunes as heard when the show originally aired. In some places it's obvious, like when Marshal introduces a Minor Threat song while DJing at the school radio station and they play some generic dreck. Other times, it's more subtle, like every scene in the diner originally had music playing in the background, and now there's just nothing.

It behooves me to say ...
I used to watch this every Monday night, and then the kids at school would all talk about it the next day. Sadly, the show died a premature death, which was a bummer as I always wanted to see Lauren and Patty grow and get over not being part of the in-crowd. Oh well, we can all pretend Patty became a famous New York sex columnist ...

Now to the DVDs. I've seen the set and all I can say is, "Totally New Wave."

Fans of the show will be thrilled to know that all the episodes are here as they were originally presented - crystal clear, with the Waitresses and Devo's appearances intact and the full 24 minute running times. Of course, we have to suffer through the awful canned laughter, there was no option to get rid of it.

This show brings back memories for sure, and it's hard to believe it's been over a quarter of a century. Is that even possible?

A great feature of the DVDs is the cast interviews. The only members missing are Merritt...

groundbreaking tv show ,

The Complete Toxic Avenger (7 DVD Box Set)

"GREAT BUT A LITTLE LET DOWN"
This is a great box set indeed, i give it 5 stars for the unrated version of the original toxic avenger and the awesome and very gory part 4. it gets 1 STAR FOR THE RIP-OFF PART 2 THAT IS NOT UNRATED AND HAS MAJOR GORE CUT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Toxic 2 is R-Rated version!
Great box set - nicey packaged and at a reasonable price. My only gripe is that toxic 2 is the R-rated version and is missing many scenes of extreme gore which helped make up for the weakness of the sequel.Even Kaufman points out that this is the cesored version in the audio commentary.A shame that the UNRATED description as pointed out by amazon is a lie.BEWARE!!

Essential Bookend Box of Brilliance!!
All episodes of the rare and impossible to find Toxic Crusaders TV series are featured in this 7-disc set. Only 4 have been previously released on DVD and getting the entire 13 episodes alone is worth the very affordable price of this set.

But, apart from that, of course the director's cut versions of the four classic Toxic Avenger films are included as well, along with the feature length documentary "Apocalypse Soon: The Making of Citizen Toxie", making this the most complete, affordable and essential set of any great filmfranchise.

You may have one or more of Toxies films already, and to be honest, without at least the first one no collection of important horror films can be taken seriously. (You might even, and possibly mistakenly, have picked up the R-rated version of the best film in the batch: Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger part IV".) But in any case you do yourself a big favour buying this box-set. Even if you are lucky enough to already own the (now...

Lon Chaney Collector's Edition

You can sell stuff cheaply if you steal it
It costs a lot to properly prepare silent films for video editions. One must obtain the original film, restore the film, prepare a digital video master, and commission music. Thus, purchasers of silent film on DVD usually get what they pay for -- and this "Collector's Edition" is no exception.

Shameless St. Clair Vision has copied "Ace of Hearts" from the TCM/Warner DVD Chaney set, they have copied "Hunchback", "Oliver Twist, "Outside the Law," "The Shock" and "Nomads of the North" from the Image Entertainment DVD editions, "The Penalty" appears to be from Kino's DVD edition, and I strongly suspect but am not certain that "The Phantom of the Opera' originates with a VHS tape from Video Yesteryear (it is the 1929 sound reissue edition run at an appallingly slow 16 frames per second). Of course the tints and musical scores from their source copies have been stripped off, so these editions are somewhat degraded and entirely b&w with often-inappropriate needle-drop scores...

Lon Chaney rarities at a low price.
I can't bomb this set.
It is what it is....a bargain DVD set offering half decent to not so great prints of Lon Chaney films from the 20s.
The films include:
Phantom of the Opera(1925)-Not a good print, like most public domain versions. The 1929 rerelease version.
Hunchback of Notre Dame(1923)-Half decent print.Buy the Image version if you really like this movie.
Oliver Twist(1922)-Pretty good print.Image has a better print available,though.
The Trap(1924)-Genuine rare Chaney vehicle is not a horror film but a drama about revenge against a man scorned.
A good Chaney performance. Not available anywhere else on DVD.
The Penalty(1920)-Essential Chaney.Sub-Par print.Go with the Kino edition of this one.
Shadows(1922)-Okay print.Image carries best print.(at 24.95!).
Flesh and Blood(1922)-REALLY rare Chaney film about Chaney's escape from prison and his plot for vengeance.
Good Chaney film, avaiable only on this set.
Ace of...

Buy for Flesh and Blood
The Chaney fan will probably already have most of these films on authorized editions elsewhere, but you probably wont have Flesh and Blood, this set is merely worth it to pick up this title, as far as I know this is the only dvd available with Flesh and Blood on it, if you do not have the Trap either this is a good place to grab this film as well, The Trap is also avaiable through Alpha Video and is most likely the same print as this. So if you dont have either of these Chaney rarities then this set is worth it, but only buy this set for those two films, Buy the other more well known titles on the authorized editions they are worth the extra money for better transfers.

Cheers: The Complete Ninth Season

Season 9 DVDs, Cheapened
After waiting years, seriously, for this release, I was really upset to find the episodes are edited, songs are removed, and all 5 discs are shoved into one standard sized DVD case.

The distributors really cheapened the integrity of this otherwise wonderful show. Of course fans should still buy it because afterall, seasons 10 and 11 aren't out yet and the company won't do them unless this one sells okay. Just be warned, you may watch it and your favorite scenes and songs are missing.

BEWARE! Edited content
Aside from sporting new packaging and a 5-disc format for Season 9, there's a little box on the bottom of the back which holds that most dreaded statement for any fan: "Some episodes may be edited from their original network versions. Music has been changed for this home entertainment version."

Since it has been several years since I have seen these shows, I won't be able to determine what has been changed, but I felt compelled to alert potential buyers that the music royalty hounds have savaged another classic show. These monopolistic behemoths must be stopped.

Beyond that, it is another season of Cheers. The video and audio appear to be excellent. So 5 stars minus 1 star for the edits.

Yeeeaahhhh!!!!
I have to say...it took forever for Season 9 to come out - a little too long in my opinion. While shows that have not been heard of in ten years and have had no real air time - they release their seasons back to back every 4-6 weeks, while we wait years for a show that won 6 Golden Globes; 65 other wins; and 138 nominations. There are a couple of down sides to this Season, and one of them is the music that others have mentioned - especially the "I Fought the Law" scene - I had to rewind it a few times to try to hear what song it way - - still have no clue - and it makes no sense. I did also catch the swearing as well. Otherwise, I am happy to have it - it has been too long. The case it came in is awesome - although it does not match my other ones, it's all good - most show seasons do not match anymore due to them changing the cases. Hopefully Season 10 will arrive in a decent amount of time - 4-6 weeks perhaps. Cheers to you!!!

The Mask/Son of the Mask

DVD's Mask & Son of the Mask
I bought this DVD set for my grandson and he loved both the movies. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to laugh.

Best buy of the year so far
I loved the mask with Jim Carey. The Mask 2 was just a bonus. I bought this movie for my kids 10 days ago and it hasn't come out of my daughters DVD player since the first night. My son and daughter say its one of the best movies that they have seen in a while and they are movie buffs.

present for our to be son in law
This was a Christmas gift for our daughters boy friend, now this would not be a movie for me, but he liked it I'm sure..Thanks

Wonder Pets - Save the Beetles!

"Kelp! We Got Tangled Up in Kelp!"
The Wonder Pets! get groovy in the newest release, "Save the Beetles!" Yes, the Wonder Pets are called up on the ol' telly with a request for help from four members of a famous rock band, the Beetles, whose yellow submarine has gotten tangled up in kelp. As they journey to rescue them, they'll dive straight into Beatlemania pop-culture (and reference numerous Beatles song titles and lyrics along the way!) It's a fun journey, with two of the Beetles being voiced by... well, no, not the Beatles themselves, but by members of the cast of the stage play "Beatlemania!"

In the second half, "Three Wonder Pets and a Baby!," the Wonder Pets find themselves with a baby on their hands -- a baby pig! This one is really cute and could quickly become a fan favorite. It may be even more fun than "Save the Beetles!" There are many cute baby-related things, including various pictures of actual babies (my guess is children of the show staff.)

None of the other episodes released on...

OK! You've got me!
Well this is everything a Baby Boomer gran or auntie needs to see to guarantee a purchase! It's a combination British Invasion music "tribute" with tons of Beatle references and precious, funny animals! There's no violence and no scary guys to make it anything but perfect for its intended audience -- Babies and Boomers who love them!

I'm sold. How about you?

Viva Wonder Pets
My 10 month old cannot get enough of the Wonder Pets. She even rocks and tries to dance when she hears the songs. This one is great, although I wish the Beattle segment was longer. I actually like and approve of Wonder Pets for her, b/c they are sending a good message. Plus I do not have to listen to the schreching, nails on chalk board, screeming from dora the explorer. Dora drives us crazy. More Wonder Pets..........

Wee Willie Winkie

One of Shirley's best; nice restoration job
Fox continues to release the Temple films without any real extras; this one appears to be no exception. Since it was also part of a John Ford boxed set, it underwent an extensive overhaul (about 77 hours according to the background information on the DVD). Original elements at Fox were unusable for "Winkie," but the final result is very good. There is NO colorized version to choose from here, but rather a sepia-tone version, just as the film was originally released. For film buffs, this is a plus!

"Wee Willie Winkie" (1937) VERY loosely based on Rudyard Kipling's popular story. Taken by her mother (June Lang) to live in India, a young girl (Temple) gradually wins the heart of her feisty grandfather (C. Aubrey Smith), a colonel at a British army outpost. Before long, she captures the hearts of his entire regiment as well as his chief enemy (Cesar Romero), using her charms to prevent a full-scale war. Directed by John Ford; definitely one of Temple's best films, thanks to the...

Shirley in India!
One over-looked strength of so many Shirley Temple movies is that they can introduce young children to the topic of death and loss in a sensitive way. When Shirley's soldier friend Victor McLaglen dies of his wounds in his hospital bed during Shirley's visit, it is obvious to the audience, but not to the naive child. I found that scene the most touching in the whole movie. In other respects, it is a very good piece of movie-making, with old war horses C. Aubrey Smith and Cesar Romero turning in solid performances as Shirley's commander-grandfather and the villainous enemy to British concerns, respectively. Shirley manages to quell troubles in India, at least for now, by virtue of her innocence and pluck. Well worth seeing.

Beautiful restoration!
I never realized this film was originally released in different tints for different scenes until I read the story of its restoration, which is included on the DVD. It was an unusual process at the time - usually a film was either in color or black and white. The restoration is indeed a magnificent job!

Wee Willie Winkie was Zanuck's way of trying to hold up his "falling star" by putting Shirley in a different "formula" and Wee Willie (as is Shirley's other 1937 release, Heidi) is a successful endeavor. By 1937, box office audiences had grown a little weary of the "little orphan Shirley" plots that were essentially the same story with variations in each theme. Zanuck paired Shirley with John Ford for the first time in an attempt to give her something more to do than dance and be cute. Shirley found Ford to be a difficult director but someone she later bonded with and he even became her first child's godfather. Missing from this film are the "cutsey" things written...

A Date with Judy

"I think men are awful! Even the ones you think are wonderful..."
A delightful entry in the Jane Powell cannon, "A Date with Judy" is a sunny, happy movie with fun songs, bright technicolor photography, and an impossibly beautiful Elizabeth Taylor in her pre-screechy days.

Based on a popular radio show, "A Date with Judy" stars our Jane as a spunky teen growing up in Southern California. Her boyfriend (sort of) directs the school band, his name is Oogie, and he's completely devoted to her. So of course when handsome Steven (a young Robert Stack) comes to town she ditches Oogie and chases after Steven with reckless abandon. But Steven has his eye on Oogie's older sister, Carol. "You're the most beautiful girl in Santa Barbara, and you know it," he tells her, and because she's played by Elizabeth Taylor it's hard to argue. There's also the always welcome Carmen Miranda, teaching Judy's father to rumba, and a host of familiar character actors to join in the fun.

I would put "A Date with Judy" up there with the best of Jane Powell,...

Fun, Nostalgic, Adorable Charmer!
Get ready for laughter, romance, wonderful musical numbers, and an overall UPBEAT, FEEL GREAT time!!! Among the main stars in this fun color musical are Jane Powell, Scotty Beckett, Liz Taylor (just sixteen yrs. old ), Robert Stack, Carmen Miranda, and Xavier Cougat. The story is set in Santa Barbara, CA where sixteen yr. old Judy Foster (Powell), a vivacious teenager, finds herself in all kinds of chaos due to misunderstandings and family mixups. Lots of fun song and dance numbers by the charming Carmen Miranda. Powell sings gorgeous renditions of "Judaline" and "It's a Most Unusual Day." I LOVE THIS MOVIE and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!!

LET THE FUN BEGIN
A cluster of MGM stars are showcased in this song-filled comedy that keeps you chuckling from beginning to end. Jane Powell is Judy Foster, who sings weekly on a local radio show sponsored by next door neighbor Elizabeth Taylor's father. Liz's younger brother, Oogie, is the leader of the band for the show and is also in charge of the music for the big school dance which everyone is preparing for. He also has a crush on Judy. But Judy and Liz both have a crush on local soda fountain adonis, Robert Stack. Guess who wins?

In the meantime, Judy's learns that her father, Wallace Beery, is seeing Brazilian bomshell, Carmen Miranda, on the sly. Not realizing that he is taking dancing lessons to surprise his wife, Judy manages to frustrate relationships in several different directions.

The whimsical plot is laced with several dazzling musical numbers. Jane sings the up-beat "It's A Most Unusual Day", the radio show's theme song "Judaline", a mad-cap duet with...

We Are the Music!

A mini-history of Cuban Music - but with a hum.
This black and white film from 1966 is a mini-history of Cuban music styles - at least those in place during the 1960s. The film "Buena Vista Social Club" has brought a resurgence in interest in the folk music and jazz of Cuba. Director and scriptwriter (though there is no actual script to speak of) Rogelio Paris shows us nearly all the non-Classical music styles of the country. Beginning with an Afro-Cuban folk dance company, we move through Latin jazz, percussive dance, piano jazz (by a guy who combines Louis Armstrong's and Fats Waller's personalities) and Salsa at a Carnival. Between the musical performances - both staged and impromptu - we are given scenes of the neighborhoods (of, I assume, Havana, though not identified) and people in their everyday life - whether doing laundry or playing on the beach.

Though this is an important film that captures the culture, time has not been kind to the print used and it has not been restored in any way. The image is not formatted...

We are the Music!
If you, like me, enjoy afrocaribbean music- salsa, Latin jazz, etc. --, "We are the Music!" (¡Nosotros, la Música!) is for you. And if you, like me, are specially attracted to archival footage about this music, then you will definitely be in heaven with this film, too. "We are the Music!" is a fascinating and precious trip to nostalgia that documents part of Cuba's important musical contribution to the world.

The film was made in Cuba during the sixties, and director Rogelio París, with Odilio Urfe as his musical advisor, takes us to many places in which music was played at the time. The first stop is in a theater, and we enjoy a show by Cuba's legendary Conjunto Folklórico Nacional. Odilio Urfe and his conjunto follows, playing charanga a la francesa., in what appears to be a semi-deserted building. Next comes fantastic footage of singer and pianist Bola de Nieve (Ignacio Villa) entertaining a crowd, performing some classic Cuban songs, like...

One of the greatest films ever made
I could have said one of the greatest *musical* films ever made, but frankly I think this goes beyond that. I can't think of another musical film where the music and visuals are so superbly interwoven, and the craft of film-making evident here elevates this obscure movie to the most rarefied level.

The black and white cinematography is stunning, from that 60's era of Socialist solidarity cinema that borrowed stylistic elements from Soviet films. There are so many unforgettable images: the dancing couple who made the world disappear, the exhausted rumba dancer, the santeria devotee dancing into a trance-fit, Bola de Nieve before a cozy audience, the swirling sound of the charanga flute filling up an old church ... The list is endless, the visual genius continuously mindboggling.

People I've shown this to have dropped their jaw to the ground. Many people have acknowledged I Am Cuba, made at roughly the same time, for cinematographic mastery, but I would put...

The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection, Vols. 1 & 2

Great campy sci-fi from the 1950's
Universal has finally seen the folly of their ways in selling this set exclusively via Best Buy and is re-releasing both volumes 1 & 2 in one set. Included are all ten films in the original sets, but once again there will be no extra features - just the films themselves and some trailers. If you love the great campy horror films of the 1950's you'll love this set. The following is from the press release on the new combined set:

Tarantula (1955, 81 min.)
An experiment to create a growth formula that could end starvation evolves into a nightmare when a contaminated spider grows gargantuan - with an appetite to match!

The Mole People (1956, 78 min.)
Deep below the surface of the earth, three scientists stumble upon a tyrannical tribe of albinos who have enslaved a mutant - and dangerous - race of mole people.

The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957, 81 min.)
After encountering a mysterious radioactive mist, an ordinary businessman finds his...

The ultimate "B" movie set
Although I bought both these sets at Best Buy when they were released, I'm delighted that folks who may have missed out on them can now own these great films on DVD.

To be honest, only a couple of the films might be considered bona-fide sci-fi classics, which occasionally rise above the limitations of typcial fifties "B" movie material. THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING MAN is one the most thought-provoking and existential films from the period. And THE MONOLITH MONSTERS rises above its low budget with some simple yet impressive effects, and better-than-average performances.

TARANTULA and THE DEADLY MANTIS are entertaining parts of the wave of Giant Killer Bug movies that ruled the screens in the 1950's. MANTIS sports one of the more ridiculously memorable critters of the era. CULT OF THE COBRA and THE LAND UNKNOWN incorporate the then-popular sub-genre of "jungle thrills" into their scripts.

The real oddity of this collection is DR. CYLCOPS. It's the only...

The big, the small, the lost and the shifty
In the early days of talkie films, many of the major studios carved out their own niches: MGM did the spectacular movies and the musicals, Warner Brothers did the social issue and gangster movies and Universal did the monster movies. By the 1950s, Frankenstein and company were generally played out, so Universal switched from the supernatural to the "scientific" monsters. These films were for the most part B-movie fare and generally fun, but also formulaic enough to merit parody, most notably on Mystery Science Theater 3000. In fact, at least three of the ten movies in The Classic Sci-Fi Ultimate Collection were redone on MST3K.

These ten movies fit into four categories, each with two or three films: the big, the small, the lost and the shifty. The "big" films deal with oversized monsters: Tarantula, The Monolith Monsters and The Deadly Mantis. Tarantula, one of three in the set directed by Jack Arnold (of Creature of the Black Lagoon fame) deals with an oversized...

The Mighty Ducks/D2: The Mighty Ducks

A childhood favorite, but the DVD is only decent.
This is basically just throwing the two old DVDs in one case. The problem with this is that "The Mighty Ducks" is STILL NOT ANAMORPHIC, meaning that you get a widescreen image with black bars on all four sides if you're watching on a widescreen TV.

The movies themselves are wonderful, and D2 is a great disc, but the original has yet to come out as anamorphic which is just awful.

Magnificent masterpiece
It was magnificent masterpiece that bridged the land between classic art and modern day elegance. I found myself literally on the edge of my seat during every step of Gordon Bombay's adventure from his fast-living lawyer days to triumphantly returning to a sport he once loved. I can now officially say, I will never watch another piece of entertainment without immediately measuring it to the immeasurable great and mighty Mighty Ducks! (Review written by L.G. Knutson)

Beverly Hills, 90210: The Fourth Season

The series was great, the DVD not so much!
I'm not through the whole season yet but I am already mad at the EXTENSIVE cutting of scenes in the Greek episode. The cheesy music instead of the music from the series I can tolerate (but am SO happy they kept the music in Season 3's finale) but the eliminating of scenes I cannot. They completely took out the storyline of Aundrea going ot the sorority with her star of David and only show the aftermath, cut out the girls showing up at Alpha house and cut out the end where the girls pledge to the Peach Pit sorority.

They better pony up to the music rights because this is getting ridiculous. I won't pay money for DVDs with chopped up shows!

My guilty addiction ;-P
I still love this show even after all these years. I love watching the episodes that I used to watch over and over and this season really takes off.
I love the second episode (The Girl From New York City) where Donna is afraid to tell her mother that she and David are now living together at the beach. In Strangers In The Night, Andrea finally loses her virginity which becomes an interesting story line and I love Twenty Years Ago Today when Brenda's new love interest proposes to her and she accepts. Also later in the season we see David begin to use drugs and watch the problems that ensue as a result. And finally the other two 'shattering' story lines are Brenda's departure, and Andrea giving birth to a little girl.
I'm so glad they brought this out so soon after season 3 and hope this means that season 5 will be out soon too. I love this programe so much and love watching these discs pile up on my shelves. I still go back to them every now and then and start over.

The college years.
Beverly Hills 90210: The Fourth Season is the year when the gang started college together and hey what's the odds these friends would all end up attending the same college? Anyway season four was an amazing, inspiring, and gutsy season. Kelly and Brenda's friendship was still strained, Andrea became pregnant and got married, and Donna was still a virgin and David couldn't accept it. A lot of reviewers say they hated Brenda but she was probably the most interesting character on the show, this would be Shannen Doherty's last season. This is the best and polished season of the college years so with that being said, I highly recommend it!

WWE: Twist of Fate - The Matt & Jeff Hardy Story

Twist of Fate
I was hesitant to buy thi set. I don't know why, considering I own over 85% of the other WWE/WWF dvds. I really enjoyed Hardy Boyz Leap of Faith dvd but that contained all of the greatest matches and did not contain blurred WWF logos. Back to this dvd though. A commerical of this set looked cool so I bought it the next day.

Matt Hardy dvd is good. A one hour story of Matt has some good moments and is overall well done. I bought it for the Edge, Lita, and Matt saga; You get one side of the story (Matt's of course), if Edge's dvd has a bio i'm sure you'll hear his side. I enjoy the footage of there early days. I wish thy put some early talent enchancement matches on this dvd but the matches are good overall. Some shocking moments are they mention ROH and have a second clip of Beniot.

Jeff Hardy is pretty much the same as the Matt dvd. It shows some of the stuff he does outside the ring which is neat. Only shocking moment is he mentions TNA.

Overall, im...

The Split Is Now Complete
TWIST OF FATE is music to my ears. It celebrates the Cameron, NC brothers as individuals, as well as their tag team run that catapulted them to stardom. It addresses the negative aspects and criticisms that both men have endured. It even goes so far as to acknowledge that there is another wrestling promotion out there (well...TNA really only gets mentioned for a few moments).

I hate to review TWIST OF FATE as a single DVD set, because part of the point is to reveal Matt & Jeff as separate people. However, my praise and criticisms for both stories are the same.

Both documentaries (Matt's is 59 minutes, Jeff's is 47 minutes) tell compelling stories of the brothers' upbringing, early wrestling exposure, bumps in their personal lives, and plans for the future. My greatest fears were twofold: I was concerned that the documentaries would be underdeveloped, and that it was too soon to a biography DVD on wrestlers whose careers are likely far from over...

A Good look into the Hardys
The Hardy brothers are one of the most talented teams out there today. They have won the intercontinental title, european, hardcore, and of course the tag team titles in their own separate rights. This two disc documentary is a good way to see how the Hardys became superstars of today.

Disc 1
Disc one is only about Matt's story but others speak on matters such as Jeff and Edge. It starts with Matt telling how him and Jeff lost their mother at early ages and how their father took care of them. Matt then moves to how he became a promoter early in his career & then coming to the WWE with Jeff. He talks about his struggles early in his WWE career and then expresses how the ladder match and the tables match launched his and Jeff's tag team success. Also how Lita came to be a part of the Hardys and then the relationship her and Matt had together. Jeff and Matt being split up and becoming individual stars. The matter of the whole Edge and Lita thing is touched on and how Matt...

The Wedding Planner / My Best Friend's Wedding (Romantic Comedy Double Feature)

really fun movies!!
these movies were a 14th birthday present for my daughter. 2 great "chick flicks" just fun, happy movies to sit down and enjoy together over a bowl of popcorn!

Both DVD were great
I loved the movie came in great shape, Just what I wanted, Great to watch with my kids and husband

One good title, one meh as far as romance goes
I enjoyed the Wedding Planner and decided to take a chance on the double DVD since I hadn't seen the other movie before. Big mistake. My Best Friends Wedding just made me so mad at her horrible behavior! I could not find any reason to defend her actions. You can be jealous that your love is getting married, but don't be such a cold-hearted saboteur when he doesn't return the affection. You've been friend-zoned, get over it home-wrecker. If you have seen this movie before and liked it then go ahead and buy these two. But otherwise I recommend getting the Wedding Planner on its own!

Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! - Season 1

Drink up
The scene cues and we are introduced into the blank stare of an awkward and uncomfortable looking doctor. His ill prepared segment on fruit cannot start because, as the doctor tries to subtly inform his colleagues, he does not 'have the fruit'. After several clumsy attempts by the camera operator to break the awkwardness of the situation, we catch the backside of a quickly moving production assistant dropping a bag of freshly purchased supermarket fruit in front of Mr. Brule. It works.

Almost if by force of habit we expect a punch line at this point. It doesn't come. Our minds reel as the plot is pulled from beneath our taught fingers. No climax, no story development, no comfort lead in music. Shortly thereafter you realize you are only invited to participate in the haphazard denouement of this story - you are riding the thing down into the glorious and hilarious catastrophe that it was meant to be.

As we let the show aspirate, we can detect notes of dark...

Deprogramming for the TV generation
Many people dont like large chunks of their lives being ripped from them and exposed as being horrendously stupid. Most of us spend a lot of our lives watching television, its almost completely unredeemably artificial and crappy. This show pokes fun at it all. They manage to do it in an entertaining and humorous way not in a preachy or nasty way. Many people are unsettled by the material because its uncomformist and intentionally off key, I personally enjoy the change.
The DVD doesnt get old the work is dense in a good way and new things appear in it on every rewatching. When I am watching some completely retarded infomercial or tv show on the tube. I sometimes just start laughing as I realize how absurd the whole thing is as something from Tim and Eric pops into my head.
Some bits dont work 100% but I give them 5*'s anyway for putting it all out there.

Simply amazing
There is no show today better than this. Think of pee-wee's playhouse meets robot chicken. It is amazing. Tim and Eric awesome show, great job! has all the awesome and funny things you'd expect from tim and eric. Awkward pauses, weird facial expressions, funny dances, weird situations, etc. I love all kinds of shows like Mr.Show, Human Giant, Robot Chicken, Invader Zim, but out of every show ever made this one is my favorite. I don't know what it is about these two guys, but they are the funniest two people to ever live. If you thought their other show Tom Goes To The Mayor was good then you NEED to see this, its even better.

Punk Love

Romantic and tragic modern day Romeo and Juliet
The way this film is shot - deep blues and beautiful imagery - is definitely a treat on the eyes. Sarah and Spike are a young punk couple trying to make their way in a world that is more hostile than we'd like to think, taking solace only in each other - and in the lush drug world of heroin.

The story is nothing we haven't heard before, and Sarah's abusive home life can seem over the top at times. However, the two young actors give life and realism to the fights and reconnections that exist in a dramatic teenage relationship. The small glimpse we have of Spike's family life is brief, but I found it fairly touching, and the ending breaks our hearts and makes us think of what could have been, "if only..."

There are some interesting directing choices in various scenes, and there's not a lot of focus on the "punk" side of the couple - aside from a scene featuring Spike's audition for the band and the general squalor of the teens' lives in general - but the desperate...

Honest Portrayal of a Junkie's Life
Punk Love is one of those kinds of movies that leave you feeling you need a shower because it deals with drug junkies living it utter squalor. I think this movie would be best watched by traditional values teens with two things in mind. First, this is the type of life taking drugs inevitably leads to, so avoiding drugs would do one well. But, the second issue that families might discuss is the unfairness of life. Sarah was once just as innocent and precious a baby as any born into any family. But, Sarah didn't find love in her family; she found parents who were too overwhelmed by their own problems to give Sarah the attention she needed. Then, the stepdad forced himself sexually on her, obviously for some time. The question to discuss is what we, as loving people, can do to help kids such as Sarah. In the end, all she really wanted and needed was love, not drugs to numb the pain.

As in any honest film dealing with drug addiction, there is a lot of bad language...

very dark and gritty
i think the acting was very good especially from the two leads. great movie that you wont regret watching. watch this

Country Remedy

Great Film - Touching Character Journeys
This is a touching indie movie, perfect for when you need a break from all those action blockbusters and want to watch a movie centered around characters & their personal journeys. The N. Carolina mountain scenery is an ideal place for the main character Dr. Gibbs (Cameron Bancroft)and his son to face up to their grief over the loss of their wife/mother. The colorful characters of the community add humor and warmth to the story. Actress Bellamy Young is pitch perfect from her character's first encounter with the Dr. Gibbs. The payoff at the end of the film is emotional and powerful. I definitely recommend this film!

I Love This Film
I love this film. I have seen "Country Remedy" and want two copies to give as gifts. It is story about grief and transformation. I laughed and cried - the characters are so real. The story is beautiful and the mountain setting is beautiful. This is the kind of story you want to see again and to share.

dougv
An excellent movie. Well acted and good story.
One problem, which stopped me from giving it a 5 star rating: The voices were often hard to hear, so I had to turn up
the volume to almost maximum to hear what they were saying. At times you had to quickly turn down the volume or hurt
your ears.

Cloverfield

Cloverfield won me over yet I see why people despise this
Now that all the hype has die down I was able to give this film an objective look. I have to admit I was impressed. This movie throws out the music, set-ups, and cheap scares out the window - in a good way. Nothing in this movie tells you you're watching a movie of course. You're completely disorientated from start to finish, completely uncomfortable and on edge. And that is a hell of an achievement in today's de-sensitized movie environment. While I didn't jump once, I did find myself clutching the chair arms at various points.

I see why viewers would fine this derivative but every monster movie cliché is in there, and so it should be. The monster destroys landmarks. The military fight the monster. News reports advancing the plot. But it's delivered with such style and such punch that you can't help but be awed. You're seeing these events on an ant's eye level. There are no sweeping special effects shots of the White House being demolished by aliens, no aerial shots...

Uninvolving? Really?
I take issue with the claim in the review that this was an uninvolving movie. I don't think that's the case--if you watch the movie more than once. I would consider the first viewing to be NUMBING. I choose this word carefully. The filmmakers are consciously referencing 9/11, and viewed through that lens, I found the plot to be representative of the human need to come to grips with that horrible event--the rescue narrative, which can be easily dismissed as romantic drivel, to me reads as the poetic expression of the human need to say the things that tragedy prevented us from saying.

The complaints about the way the film is shot--with the handy cam--are valid and fair. I was not bothered by them.

Finally, I will say this for the film. Yes, when I saw it in theaters, it felt uninvolving. However, it was also haunting. There was something about it that I felt compelled to come back to. I have now seen it three times. The more I see it, the more I see INTO...

its greatest asset is most people's biggest complaint
The handheld camera.. or at leased they make it feel like one(theres good picture quality, but it still feels like a homemovie).. in my opinion it puts the viewer right there with the characters in the movie. there are very few examples for this subgenre, if thats what you want to call it. Blair Witch Project and Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon come to mind.

this style of filming has been one of the best ideas in horror, because there are no other styles that make the terror and action feel so real. there were multiple times i got chills down my neck from this movie. its just.. intense.

but.. without the camerawork, it is little more than another monster movie, which isnt a bad thing. it would still be leagues above most in the genre.

it takes a little time to get to know the characters in the opening scenes. i found most of the characters very believable and engaging. i actually cared about their everyday lives, and past together.(the first...

The Waltons: The Complete Seventh Season

Season Seven: A Time for Change
While this season may not be the best season of "The Waltons," it certainly is a season to be remembered. Right from the start, the beloved grandfather has died, and everyone is grieved in "The Empty Nest 1&2." Will Geer had apparently died between season six and seven, leaving Grandma (Ellen Corby) quite alone. Ben, now working the mill with his father, marries Cindy. More importantly, WWII begins with the bombing of Pearl Harbor--where Curt is stationed, and he dies as a result. Olivia (Michael Leanerd) finds out she has turberculosis and leaves the Walton family for a while. Elizabeth has her 13th birthday, Jim-Bob gets a tattoo, and Jim-Bob joins the Army.

Truly one of the most interesting seasons "The Waltons" had, however the disappearance of Richard Thomas and Will Geer is keenly felt. One could say that this was also one of the more weaker seasons of the show, but still one worth watching. The following is an episode list of Season Seven:

1. The...

Season 7 begins with Season 6
I suggest you watch the last episode of season 6 prior to viewing the first episodes of season 7. It really makes you appreciate the relationship between Will Geer and Ellen Corby.

"Day of Infamy" extremely well done
"Day of Infamy" chronicles the impact of December 7, 1941 on The Walton family. It is an incredibly moving episode with very understated but strong performances. Ralph Waite, Judy Norton-Taylor, and David Harper are particularly outstanding in the final heartbreaking scene. I know my own grandparents had to endure a moment just like the one when Jim-Bob brings the telegram home to the family, and I found this scene gut-wrenching.

It's Probably Just My Thyroid

I'm sure it is my Thyroid, lol
I have other DVD's of Anita Renfroe and just love to watch them, and this is no exception. She will have you laughing so hard and not having to worry about what she might say. She has answered all my questions now.... I am sure it is just my thyroid, lol.

Get Ready to Laugh
Ok, I saw Anita Renfroe live at Women of Faith: Over the Top this year. She is a riot!!

She is very random. She talks and has parts of a conversation, and then quickly changes to another topic (Very female) She is a mix of stand up and musical comedy.

A humourous explanation about the Thyroid tells how it works, and some of the problems that the thyroid causes.

The DVD line up:

*What I'm Talking About
*LASIK and Hi Def
*Dadsense
*Creative Memories
*Lay a Little Snare for You
*It's Probably Just my Thyroid
*Before I Eat
*Grocery Store Games
*Magazines and Catalogs
*Letter to My Younger Self
*I Sing for Them
I loved this video!! I did also see "Two Thumbs Up" and it was cute, and humorous to see the changes Anita made through the years (Greatest songs - so far) type of video.

If you've ever watched Banana's comedy, they will sometimes pick on people just to get a laugh. Anita...

It is just my funny bone!
It takes a woman with an eye and ear for the humoristic entertainment value of being a woman to show that our challenges of getting older are funnier than we let on.

Totally Baked (Unrated)

TOTALYY BAKED - DELIVERS - AMAZING
Nothing but fun! Totally Baked delivers laugh after laugh and makes a clear point about how outdated and ridiculous marijuana laws are. I loved the film and would recommend it to anyone...its the kinda movie you can watch over and over again and it never gets old.

Well Presented
I was expecting to watch just another stoner movie and instead I got a movie that was full of facts about the truth behind Marijuana in Corporate America. It was a funny movie that was very serious about the fight to legalize Marijuana - and presents and excellent case for it (that is not just 3 minutes of the movie).

Insightful, well reasoned
Ought to go a long way towards helping ease the anti-marijuana laws. - Insightful, appropriate, well researched and a well-presented case. . .ugh, hold on a minute. . .never mind. . . Oh, wow, man! It was cool. Yeah, real cool movie.

Moving Free Longevity Solution Cardio Dance Level 1 Easy Aerobics DVD for Beginners, Boomers and Seniors Exercise by Mirabai Holland

A Great Way to Get Started
If you've never used a dance/exercise DVD or haven't taken an exercise class, this DVD is a great, nonthreatening way to start and to get a reasonable aerobic boost. The instructor keeps it simple and walks you through the moves. This was important to me, a baby boomer and first-timer who had just been disappointed by another dance/exercise video I had bought, by another instructor, who zipped through the moves so fast that I couldn't learn them. I used to dance casually when I was younger, like most of us, but it had been a long time since I'd had to think consciously about coordinating arm and leg movements. This instructor makes it easy. If you spazz out on a couple of the moves the first time, don't worry -- you'll get them the second time around. Again, she keeps it nice and simple. She also does warm-up and cool-down/stretching at the beginning and end, respectively. Note: This DVD isn't for people who are in gung-ho competition with themselves and want to collapse in an...

Perfect exercise!
I have been going to the Y for aerobic group exercises for many years,(I'm 75) and decided I needed a break. This DVD fills the bill, I can do it in my own home whenever I want. My only wish would be that it was longer, but you do have the option to do it over again if you want.
I also got Mirabai Holland's Fabulous Forever easy strength and easy stretch DVDs and find I can combine them however I wish for the perfect workout.
This is easy exercise, and you feel energized when you finish.Highly recommended for senior ladies like me.

Your target heart rate and how to achieve it!
This video gives you the information you need about your target heart rate zone, exactly how to figure it out and achieve it. At the end you can actually take your heart rate with the timing done for you. The warmup is thorough and concise, the dance movements are easy to learn and follow, especially for the inexperienced or older person. Mirabai's soothing and motivational manner make it something you can and want to do over and over again.
