Punk Love

Romantic and tragic modern day Romeo and Juliet
The way this film is shot - deep blues and beautiful imagery - is definitely a treat on the eyes. Sarah and Spike are a young punk couple trying to make their way in a world that is more hostile than we'd like to think, taking solace only in each other - and in the lush drug world of heroin.

The story is nothing we haven't heard before, and Sarah's abusive home life can seem over the top at times. However, the two young actors give life and realism to the fights and reconnections that exist in a dramatic teenage relationship. The small glimpse we have of Spike's family life is brief, but I found it fairly touching, and the ending breaks our hearts and makes us think of what could have been, "if only..."

There are some interesting directing choices in various scenes, and there's not a lot of focus on the "punk" side of the couple - aside from a scene featuring Spike's audition for the band and the general squalor of the teens' lives in general - but the desperate...

Honest Portrayal of a Junkie's Life
Punk Love is one of those kinds of movies that leave you feeling you need a shower because it deals with drug junkies living it utter squalor. I think this movie would be best watched by traditional values teens with two things in mind. First, this is the type of life taking drugs inevitably leads to, so avoiding drugs would do one well. But, the second issue that families might discuss is the unfairness of life. Sarah was once just as innocent and precious a baby as any born into any family. But, Sarah didn't find love in her family; she found parents who were too overwhelmed by their own problems to give Sarah the attention she needed. Then, the stepdad forced himself sexually on her, obviously for some time. The question to discuss is what we, as loving people, can do to help kids such as Sarah. In the end, all she really wanted and needed was love, not drugs to numb the pain.

As in any honest film dealing with drug addiction, there is a lot of bad language...

Country Remedy

Great Film - Touching Character Journeys
This is a touching indie movie, perfect for when you need a break from all those action blockbusters and want to watch a movie centered around characters & their personal journeys. The N. Carolina mountain scenery is an ideal place for the main character Dr. Gibbs (Cameron Bancroft)and his son to face up to their grief over the loss of their wife/mother. The colorful characters of the community add humor and warmth to the story. Actress Bellamy Young is pitch perfect from her character's first encounter with the Dr. Gibbs. The payoff at the end of the film is emotional and powerful. I definitely recommend this film!

I Love This Film
I love this film. I have seen "Country Remedy" and want two copies to give as gifts. It is story about grief and transformation. I laughed and cried - the characters are so real. The story is beautiful and the mountain setting is beautiful. This is the kind of story you want to see again and to share.

the volume to almost maximum to hear what they were saying. At times you had to quickly turn down the volume or hurt

Cloverfield

Cloverfield won me over yet I see why people despise this
Now that all the hype has die down I was able to give this film an objective look. I have to admit I was impressed. This movie throws out the music, set-ups, and cheap scares out the window - in a good way. Nothing in this movie tells you you're watching a movie of course. You're completely disorientated from start to finish, completely uncomfortable and on edge. And that is a hell of an achievement in today's de-sensitized movie environment. While I didn't jump once, I did find myself clutching the chair arms at various points.

I see why viewers would fine this derivative but every monster movie cliché is in there, and so it should be. The monster destroys landmarks. The military fight the monster. News reports advancing the plot. But it's delivered with such style and such punch that you can't help but be awed. You're seeing these events on an ant's eye level. There are no sweeping special effects shots of the White House being demolished by aliens, no aerial shots...

Uninvolving? Really?
I take issue with the claim in the review that this was an uninvolving movie. I don't think that's the case--if you watch the movie more than once. I would consider the first viewing to be NUMBING. I choose this word carefully. The filmmakers are consciously referencing 9/11, and viewed through that lens, I found the plot to be representative of the human need to come to grips with that horrible event--the rescue narrative, which can be easily dismissed as romantic drivel, to me reads as the poetic expression of the human need to say the things that tragedy prevented us from saying.

The complaints about the way the film is shot--with the handy cam--are valid and fair. I was not bothered by them.

Finally, I will say this for the film. Yes, when I saw it in theaters, it felt uninvolving. However, it was also haunting. There was something about it that I felt compelled to come back to. I have now seen it three times. The more I see it, the more I see INTO...

its greatest asset is most people's biggest complaint
The handheld camera.. or at leased they make it feel like one(theres good picture quality, but it still feels like a homemovie).. in my opinion it puts the viewer right there with the characters in the movie. there are very few examples for this subgenre, if thats what you want to call it. Blair Witch Project and Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon come to mind.

this style of filming has been one of the best ideas in horror, because there are no other styles that make the terror and action feel so real. there were multiple times i got chills down my neck from this movie. its just.. intense.

but.. without the camerawork, it is little more than another monster movie, which isnt a bad thing. it would still be leagues above most in the genre.

The Waltons: The Complete Seventh Season

Season Seven: A Time for Change
While this season may not be the best season of "The Waltons," it certainly is a season to be remembered. Right from the start, the beloved grandfather has died, and everyone is grieved in "The Empty Nest 1&2." Will Geer had apparently died between season six and seven, leaving Grandma (Ellen Corby) quite alone. Ben, now working the mill with his father, marries Cindy. More importantly, WWII begins with the bombing of Pearl Harbor--where Curt is stationed, and he dies as a result. Olivia (Michael Leanerd) finds out she has turberculosis and leaves the Walton family for a while. Elizabeth has her 13th birthday, Jim-Bob gets a tattoo, and Jim-Bob joins the Army.

Truly one of the most interesting seasons "The Waltons" had, however the disappearance of Richard Thomas and Will Geer is keenly felt. One could say that this was also one of the more weaker seasons of the show, but still one worth watching. The following is an episode list of Season Seven:

I suggest you watch the last episode of season 6 prior to viewing the first episodes of season 7. It really makes you appreciate the relationship between Will Geer and Ellen Corby.

"Day of Infamy" extremely well done
"Day of Infamy" chronicles the impact of December 7, 1941 on The Walton family. It is an incredibly moving episode with very understated but strong performances. Ralph Waite, Judy Norton-Taylor, and David Harper are particularly outstanding in the final heartbreaking scene. I know my own grandparents had to endure a moment just like the one when Jim-Bob brings the telegram home to the family, and I found this scene gut-wrenching.

It's Probably Just My Thyroid

I'm sure it is my Thyroid, lol
I have other DVD's of Anita Renfroe and just love to watch them, and this is no exception. She will have you laughing so hard and not having to worry about what she might say. She has answered all my questions now.... I am sure it is just my thyroid, lol.

Get Ready to Laugh
Ok, I saw Anita Renfroe live at Women of Faith: Over the Top this year. She is a riot!!

She is very random. She talks and has parts of a conversation, and then quickly changes to another topic (Very female) She is a mix of stand up and musical comedy.

A humourous explanation about the Thyroid tells how it works, and some of the problems that the thyroid causes.

Totally Baked (Unrated)

TOTALYY BAKED - DELIVERS - AMAZING
Nothing but fun! Totally Baked delivers laugh after laugh and makes a clear point about how outdated and ridiculous marijuana laws are. I loved the film and would recommend it to anyone...its the kinda movie you can watch over and over again and it never gets old.

Well Presented
I was expecting to watch just another stoner movie and instead I got a movie that was full of facts about the truth behind Marijuana in Corporate America. It was a funny movie that was very serious about the fight to legalize Marijuana - and presents and excellent case for it (that is not just 3 minutes of the movie).

Insightful, well reasoned
Ought to go a long way towards helping ease the anti-marijuana laws. - Insightful, appropriate, well researched and a well-presented case. . .ugh, hold on a minute. . .never mind. . . Oh, wow, man! It was cool. Yeah, real cool movie.

Perfect exercise!
I have been going to the Y for aerobic group exercises for many years,(I'm 75) and decided I needed a break. This DVD fills the bill, I can do it in my own home whenever I want. My only wish would be that it was longer, but you do have the option to do it over again if you want.
I also got Mirabai Holland's Fabulous Forever easy strength and easy stretch DVDs and find I can combine them however I wish for the perfect workout.
This is easy exercise, and you feel energized when you finish.Highly recommended for senior ladies like me.
