The Hunt for John Wilkes Booth (History Channel)

An Intriguing and Compelling Documentary about America's First Presidential Assassin
I just watched the premiere tonight and really enjoyed it. The two-hour documentary was based on the highly acclaimed Michael Kauffman book, American Brutus: John Wilkes Booth and the Lincoln Conspiracies. I found it both educational and entertaining, narrating the events of President Lincoln's assassination and the thrilling 12-day manhunt for Booth and co-conspirator, David E. Herold. The overall presentation was excellent. The reenactments were well-done. There was great music and wonderful images. Indeed, it was a captivating and suspenseful account of this immortal character in American history. Highly recommended!

Excellent coverage of Booth's escape
This program, based on Michael Kauffman's award-winning book, American Brutus, gives an excellent overview of the events that took place after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. Mr. Kauffman's thorough research for over 40 years is evident in his book, and it is an education to hear him telling the story on this video. I had the pleasure of going with him on one of his John Wilkes Booth escape route tours. His knowledge and attention to detail are unsurpassed. I enjoyed it very much and I recommend this video DVD to anyone who wants to know more about this terrible period in our country's history.

well done documentary with realistic re-enactments
i really enjoy this production. i have watched it several times. it hits all of the salient points of interest with regards to the events leading up to the lincoln assassination. it takes us on the escape route, capture (arrests and death of assassins) and covers the trial well enough to have a clear understanding of everything that occurred. it is, however, very forgiving of dr mudd, and pretends that he didnt know that he was aiding and abetting, as well as nursing john wilkes booth, which i find very hard to accept.

The In-Laws (1979) / The In-Laws (2003) (Double Feature)

The In-Laws
Both versions are great and worth comparing. I remembered the first version with Alan Arkin & Peter Falk from years ago when I first enjoyed seeing that movie, and was equally impressed with the new version with Michael Douglas & Albert Brooks where the storyline has been brought up to modern day. David Suchet (from the Poirot series) is fantastic as the villain.

Movies don't all have to have "lessons" or deep meanings!
A good movie is a like a good book, a means to escape. The older I get, the more I enjoy watching something that is just plain funny. I don't want to be sad, I don't want to have to concentrate on a movie with a lot of metaphors and hidden meanings. I don't want murders, rapes, heart breaks or pain and suffering. Sometimes it's fun to watch a movie that is just pure entertainment and THE IN-LAWS fits the bill. Michael Douglas and Albert Brooks play the fathers of a couple who are about to be married. The only problem is that the dull, neurotic, germ obsessed, fanny pack wearing foot doctor becomes involved with CIA agent Douglas's secret life. Here begin laughs that don't stop until the movie is over. In fact, I laughed until I cried and trust me, it is wonderful to be that happy! What an escape!

Quality remake.... of "Meet the Parents"
Why? Why why why?

Well, there are positives to get out of the way first. Albert Brooks is an inspired choice to recreate Alan Arkin's role from the original "In-Laws". He brings to every movie a fully-formed nebbish ready to let loose 6 or 7 really memorable zingers, and this was no exception. Michael Douglas has played a very wide range of stock characters, if not necessarily deep. And the original "In-Laws" certainly wasn't technically perfect: it suffered from atrocious film editing. Why not spruce it up with some CGI submarines, more expansive stunt sequences, and a Paul McCartney soundtrack?

Most of the changes in the remake, however, don't make sense. Brooks is playing a Chicago podiatrist, not a Manhattan dentist. Michael Douglas has been saddled with a female sidekick, the likes of which Peter Falk didn't need. There's considerable more emphasis placed on Brooks's daughter and Douglas's son... so they can argue at length about his pre-marital flings. Candice...

Hopla: Let's Go!

excellent for babies and toddlers!!
My son loved Hopla. Started watching it at 3mos through 2yrs Very educational. Teaches then colors, shapes and creativity.

This is a cutesy first DVD to keep your child's attention. I bought this because it was featured at the end of his Word World DVD and he just loved seeing this little rabbit jumping around and started pointing and telling me what stuff was.

My son is 2 now and still loves it and it also holds the attention of my older niece's and nephew's as well.

Educational
My 2-year old loves to watch Hopla before going to bed. We watch it together and name all the animals and things we see. My daughter learned a lot of new words this way. We are raising her bilingual. Since the video does not have any words, it is convenient to narrate it and discuss it in any language.

Short Circuit (Special Edition)

Loved Number 5 - And Your Family Will Too!
Short Circuit is one of those movies that when it came out in 1985 I remembered walking out thinking what a fun film that was. Alley Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg were a great screen team. And fresh of Saturday Night Fever ad Wargames, director John Badham really showed the compassionate side of humanity. This is a warm and friendly family film for everyone.

The plot is simple - aren't they all? The military develops a device meant for war and `first strike' and decides to take it to the officials of the government for funding. Five very unique and laser-powered robots are built. Something happens to one of them, "Number 5", during the demonstration where an electrical storm creates an electrical surge and super jolts Number 5. Guess what? He comes alive! Complete with a personality and a small amount charm. He escapes (accidentally) and befriends an animal activist Stephanie (Sheedy) while Newton (Guttenberg) is assigned to chase him down and get him back.

Blu-ray: Charming 80's comedy film on Blu-ray. Picture quality is a little off but overall, an improvement over the DVD release
In 1986, the film "Short Circuit" was released in theaters and made over $40 million domestically. The film about a US military robot gone awol after an electrical surge and eventually developing a conscience attracted moviegoers.

The film is directed by John Badham ("WarGames", "Blue Thunder", "Point of No Return") and a screenplay written by S.S. Wilson ("Wild Wild West", "Ghost Dad", "Tremors") and Brent Maddock ("Wild Wild West", "Heart and Souls", "Ghost Dad").

The film kicks off with a military testing as NOVA Robotics is showcasing five robots developed for the Department of Defense. The military looks to use these robots against Moscow (note: This film was released during the Cold War between the US and U.S.S.R.) and we see the robots taking out tanks and vehicles with their laser beams.

Due to weather, everyone is brought inside of the laboratory to celebrate the robots and a Senator requests for the PR director of NOVA Robotics Howard...

"Circuit Breaks Out With Laughter"
"Short Circuit" is one of those motion pictures that I enjoy viewing so much about a Nova Robotics Robot named Number 5, struck by a power surge of lightning and giving him life. He suddenly escapes with a malfunction and searches for "imput". Later, he befriends a young woman named Stephanie Speck (Ally Sheedy) who gives him imput about life including animals, laughter from the Three Stooges on TV and even death (or in Number 5's case, "disassembled.") He then learns that Nova and the team want Number 5 destroyed and makes a break for it through the roads of Oregon. Steve Guttenberg plays a creator of the Nova robots when he and his friend Ben Jabituya (Fisher Stevens) look for the robot first before Howard (Austin Pendleton) and Skroeder (G.W. Bailey) does and destroy him. The show stealer is Number 5 (voiced by Tim Blaney.) The comedy Number 5 shows in "Short Circuit" will please kids as well as adults with hilarious and...

You are not fighting alone
The Soul Reaper captains really haven't done much yet except have meetings, and break up fights between hysterical lieutenants.

Fortunately, "Bleach Volume 10" finally breaks that trend, and we find out why people are supposed to be so scared of the captains. And as Ichigo and his friends encounter some terrifying new obstacles, we're treated to plenty of blood-soaked battles and a shocking new revelation about Rukia Kuchiki.

Chad makes it to a gateway near Rukia's cell, where he encounters the floral-coated, sake-chugging Captain Shunsui. But when Shunsui refuses to let Chad pass, the powerful teenager finds out how dangerous this captain really is. Bleach Volume 10 Review
This was a wonderful product. No scratches. The box was in good shape and the seller was prompt in the delivery of the product. The show was awesome. The most exciting battle was one with Captain Zaraki and Ichigo. I liked the rest of the volume as well.

Great KU season footage
This DVD is a must for any KU fan. It is great season highlights, clips of great KU shots, interviews, behind the scenes. What it doesn't have is the complete KU/ North Carolina Semi Final game. For this game it only has some highlights.

Rock Chalk Championship, indeed!
If you are a Kansas Jayhawk fan... GET this.

It is about an hour long... it has a few highlights, but it really goes over the whole year.

You will also want to get the DVD of the Games vs. Memphis and UNC.

What a great year 2008 was!

Great Movie!
If you are any kind of a Jayhawk fan of any age, you will LOVE this movie. It documents the whole championship season of the Jayhawks and has great interviews from the team members. A great buy I will watch over and over.

NYPD Blue: Season 2

They often say, "No news is good news," but that's not the case when it comes to DVDs. If a studio has been releasing a show on DVD and then you don't hear anything about a subsequent season, the assumption is that the sets were selling poorly and no further sets are planned. When Fox removed the January 13th listing for season 3 from their consumer site, things were looking grim for the series. We all assumed the worst: that Season 3 wouldn't be released.

Earlier today we got some good news from Fox; they plan on releasing the set, they're just looking for a good time to do so. With the TV-on-DVD schedule becoming crowded, Fox wants to find a release date where the title will get good exposure and sell enough copies so they can continue releasing the series. We don't know when that'll be, but we wanted to bring NYPD Blue fans some good news, since our previous news was rather depressing.

One of the best police dramas ever made!
NYPD Blue is one of the best police dramas ever made! What really impresses me is David Caruso is on the first 4 episodes of the 2nd season. It is sad that he left the cast after the 4th episode of season 2, but I found Jimmy Smits to be a very good replacement! The acting is just like real police detectives on this show. This show and "The Shield" are the two best police dramas ever made in my opinion. I highly recommend both of these DVDs if you are a big fan of police shows!

Hasn't lost its edge
I bought boxed sets one and two for my husband for Christmas last year. It had been a while since either of us had seen the early seasons of this show as they've never been repeated here in the UK since their first run.

We were quickly drawn back into the world of the New York detectives and spent a series of blissful nights enjoying revisiting all the moments we'd half forgotten. The series still holds its own against more recent examples of the genre, and certainly hasn't lost anything in the years since it was first shown. Gritty, poignant, dramatic and with charismatic characters you love and love to hate.

The special features on both sets were impressive - interesting and informative. Although I rapidly got tired of hearing them diss David Caruso, much as he seems to have deserved it with his obnoxious behaviour on set. Some of the interviews overlapped, but that seems to be common on most DVDs out there. For all that, I wasn't disappointed by the features,...
