Paranormal State: The Complete Season One

Very professional and sincere
I have been very impressed with Paranormal State for many reasons. They do more than go into a situation and find evidence of spirits, a haunting, etc., they then try to solve the problem. They don't just say - "yeah, you've got a ghost, bye now." They help the family understand what is happening and why, they help the spirit move on (or not, if the family decides letting it remain is the right thing to do). It is all handled with sincerity and professionalism and great decorum. When they do "dead time" and ask questions (hoping to get answers on the EVP recorder), they don't bombard the entity with questions, they ask a question, then give it an opportunity to respond. They don't joke around when on site. They don't yak to each other. They focus totally on what they are doing. They are so polite and caring. Chip Coffey, the medium they bring in on some of the cases, is wonderful. He is very talented and I like him a lot. Although I do enjoy Ghost Hunters, too, the two...

Paranormal State definitely worth watching!
What makes this show different is the college people who are investigating all these unusual occurences. Ryan has had experiences with the paranormal and ghosts all his life and he's a great "leader" of this group. He takes this stuff very seriously and I like the fact that he calls Lorraine Warren and also the Catholic Church into the most disturbing and troublesome cases. Ghost Hunters or TAPS are great but they don't help to free the spirits from their earthly presence. They don't clear out a demonic spirit or hold exorcisms to help homeowners which is usually needed. Ryan and his team will do that. It is absolutely amazing how many spirits and entities roam our world afraid or unable to cross over into the next. And Demonic hauntings - extremely scary and dangerous. Keep up the good work Ryan!

Wow, this is bad
This show appealed to me as a 'Ghost Hunter' fan. Wow, was that a mistake. While the 'Ghost Hunters' enter a site wearing their skepticism and ready to debunk anything they can, THIS program has college kids who go into the site assuming it is haunted, possibly cursed with demons. They don't even attempt to look for other explanations, they just sit around deciding whether to call a priest to exorcise the place.

Seriously, this is not a good program, save your time and money...

The Arizona Diamondbacks 2001 World Series Collector's Edition

5 star series....3 star DVD collection ..a 4 star review
Hi Folks, I'm not a Yankee or Diamondback supporter per se...but this was a historic and terrific series so I picked it up immediately and have to report that this SET is a let down.

Unlike many of the other series sets this ONLY has the complete games from the series, which given that it was a full seven is acceptable but something more of the lead up would have been better for context.

Also..DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR 1 DISC 2001 MLB DVD...its not on this set..
the bonus feature they tout as "Destiny In The Desert" (2001 Official World Series Film) isn't the hour plus movie but a scant 9 Minutes!! what kind of "Film" is that? Featurette...maybe...but calling that a film is ridiculous...its about as long as the championship acceptance feature..
the bonus interviews Don't feature Schilling or Johnson?

Hey..if you are a Diamondbacks fan ...you have to have this...but its nothing compared to the 1988 Dodger set or the 1977 Yankee sets...but more...

I loved it!
I thoroughly enjoyed watching all seven games from the 2001 World Series. I hadn't seen them since watching them live when I lived in Arizona back then. Oh, the memories...some bad, some wonderful.

Every bit as exciting as when it happened
I've seen replays of the ninth inning of Game 7 a hundred times, and am still on the edge of my seat in anticipation when Gonzo steps to the plate. Great set, fun to watch (definitely more-so if you are a Dbacks fan or a Yankee hater). Gonzo, Gracie, Beautiful Steve Finley, David "Dayum-he's-hot" Delluci, Reggie, Jay, Randy, Curt and the rest ... all qualify for "Mr. November" status in my MLB record book.

Great gift to give with some tickets for opening day!

Shiva Rea: Flow Yoga for Beginners

good, but NOT for beginners
This is a good yoga video. It is well shot with good production values and clear narration. If one is already familiar with hatha yoga, one will not have trouble following along and doing Shiva Rea's routines. It is good for a "video workout partner," and gives you the choice of watching the set without narration.

Ms. Rea is obviously competent, talented, and very adept at yoga. She is quite attractive and demonstrates the overall forms and their "flow" well. The routines are modifications or variations of more traditional forms of yoga, but not drastically so. Some of the forms reminded me of qigong.

The set of exercises on this DVD would constitute a healthy program for someone already in fairly good shape, but I seriously doubt that a couch potato with no understanding of yoga could benefit from it. If you are elderly or have any kind of physical issue, there is no instruction aimed at helping you do the forms or modify them for your needs.

Flow Yoga For Everyone
I was so glad to get another new Shiva DVD less than 5 months since her last one. This DVD was filmed in Kauai , Hawaii as well as her next DVD's to be released this year and next year. This practice is aimed for beginners but everyone can enjoy it , the whole DVD is 70 minutes and has 4 segments (and savasana) that can be done seperately:
1. Foundation Flow - approx 14 min, Shiva starts with some breathing exercises on a rock near a beautiful waterfall and continues with simple poses like cat , cobra and some variations.
2. Beginner's Backbend Flow -approx. 20 min, there is a change of scenery and Shiva is in a beautiful garden with a lot of trees near a lake.
It is actually mainly standing poses - she prepares you for backbends in this practice with some lunge variations , chair with twists ,side bends, half splits and cobra variations and finally bow and camel. This segment might be quite challenging for true beginners but she shows easier modifications for most of...

Great Moving Yoga with Lovely Scenery
I have another hatha yoga DVD that was filmed in Hawaii, and it is just so nice to have the soothing sounds, beautiful backgrounds and gentle lighting of Hawaii helping you relax into your yoga poses. Shiva Rea's voice is smooth and encouraging, and while she is extremely flexible, she gives you hope as you go that, while you might not be limber right now, you can get that way with practice.

This tape only has four real parts. You can either watch them chapter by chapter, or all in a row. You can also choose to watch them with music only, or with her verbal prompts.

The sections each have their own location. Each is quite lovely! You get 15 minutes of basic poses, 20 minutes of a lot of standing backbends, 10 minutes of more relaxing stretches, and the 25 minutes of a long repetitive sequence. Then there is a VERY super-short relaxation at the end.

I think I was spoiled by my other DVD, because with the other one there are multiple hour-long sessions...

Mannequin
The Mannequin movies are among my Favorites. Andrew McCarthy and William Ragsdale are the leading men and both were perfectly cast for the role as well as were their female mannequin actresses.

In both movies Hollywood ties the heroes together and makes for a truly enjoyable comedy/love story.

If you love a movie where the good guy gets the girl and lives happily ever after you'll love these movies.

DOUBLE THE FUN
Kim Cattrall,& Andrew McCarthy are great together,this a very funny movie.And part is with a different couple but just as funny.

I love this movie and its so great that it is not only the first movie but also the second, all in one box!

A Complex Tale Told with Humor, Tenderness, and Simplicity
Teenage pregnancy is frequently a starting point for myriad philosophical arguments: some see it as a major problem, some see it as an argument for the need of early teaching of contraceptive technique and sex education, some see it as a reason for championing abortion, and some see it as a piece of life that confronts families in both positive and negative ways. Two-Disc Special Edition Chock Full o' Extras!
Juno was Little Miss Sunshine of 2007 - the little independent film that could. Once the studio realized that it had a successful crowd-pleaser on its hands, the film was promoted from the art-house circuit to the multiplexes. Actress Ellen Page and first-time screenwriter Diablo Cody became the film's breakout stars garnering the lion's share of critical raves and awards with Page getting an Independent Spirit Award and Cody an Academy Award. Good but not perfect...
This DVD was very good, and I enjoyed it throughly. But, The title episode, Pest of the West, seemed a bit rushed and not up to normal standards. also, Th Krusty Plate and Pat No Pay are both only half length, and did not create big laughs for me. The special features are very good, with some very short "episodes". If you love Spongebob, buy this right away. If you don't, you are better off with some of the first DVDs, like Nautical Nonsence.

Cute movie, lots of extra episodes.
This DVD was great, you get so much for your money when you look at all the episodes you get with it. A must buy, especially if you have kids.

Human Footprint

visually impressive, lacking in substantial content
I teach high school science and 100 level science classes at the local university. I showed the dvd for both groups with a worksheet I made up for them (anyone in education knows that you must give the students something to work on relating to the movie they're watching, or else they won't pay attention). It was visually impressive to see the amounts of "stuff" we go through in a lifetime, and it's a good movie because students have no idea what these amounts really are; they cannot fathom how immense 43,000 soda cans is. However that's really all there was to this dvd-they show a product (or activity), explain (briefly)how it is constructed, or shipped, and then they actually display the amount with the number (literaly they laid out 43,000+ soda cans in a parking lot). There was no explanation of the impact or problems associated with the levels of consumption or waste. And after 30-40 minutes (the dvd is 1.5hrs) it gets well, kind of boring. So good for providing the visual...

Amazing Video
The "Human Footprint" was first aired on the National Geographic Channel earlier this year. It is a graphic portrayal of the quantities of stuff that an average American consumes over the course of a lifetime.

The criticism of our lifestyle is implicit. No one says what all this is doing to the planet, but it quickly becomes obvious that enormous quantities of stuff must be manufactured, consumed, and discarded in order to support the high standard of living that we enjoy. You only have to look at the herd of pigs, tons of potatoes, or football field expanse of bread to be amazed at what we consume.

The story is told with a sense of humor. The kitchen filling with fruit is funny. However, the question that comes to mind is whether we will always have the resources to keep this up. The inventory shown by National Geographic is food for thought.

Another interesting video on the subject of the consumer economy is the 20-minute "The Story of Stuff."...

First Fascinating...Then Boring....Then Irritating
This film tracks the life of a boy and girl from childhood through old age.

At various stages of life their consumption of various resources is examined in great detail.

The early displays of actual counts of what they use are at first fascinating and impressive. Gee...I thought... someone went to lot of effort to assemble and set up over 43,000 soft drink cans.

Then as the statistical bombardment continues, one begins to wonder are these numbers really correct. Each stat is accompanied with yet another visual display of what the number means. OK...I get it...I don't need to see the actual number of toothbrushes I will use in a lifetime.

Finally, the whole experience becomes irritating, if there is a point here the film is not making it clear (at least for me). Even small uses become large values over the 77 years of the average lifespan.

Are we supposed to apologize for being alive? That was the way I felt a few times...

Boston Celtics: 1985-1986 NBA Champions - Sweet Sixteen (Collector's Edition)

Missing Game 5 fight
First let me say the set is great but it is not complete and unedited. The only reason to watch Game 5 was the fight in which
Ralph Sampson and Jerry Sichting went at it. Unfortuantley it has been
edited out. I know the NBA doesn't want to promote violence but the
fight was a major part of an otherwise unexciting series. It should
have been included. Otherwise the set is great.

Not including the fight in game 5 is horrendous
How can they possibly say that this is the complete series as broadcast in its entirety? Total garbage that they edited out the fight. It happened NBA so get over it. Absolutely ridiculous.

Very good Finals set
Presentation of the product: Each game is on one disc, all inside a well presented multidisc case. I would rather have each game on a single disc slim case but this format really saves space on your library.

Game 1: Complete game. Running time: 96 minutes. No pregame or postgame shows. No extras. Good image quality but a bit pixelated (8/10) watching it on a 40" LED TV. The Celtics strike first but the highlight of the game is Akeem Olajuwon exploding for 25 first half points.

Game 2: Complete game with some minor shortcuts (for example, the time between a foul and the free throws is cut off a number of times). Running time: 84 minutes. No pregame or postgame shows. No extras. Image quality remains the same as Game 1, but this one has some audio issues in the 2nd quarter when many times the voice of the commentators turns too low. The day before this contest Larry Bird received his third consecutive MVP trophy and he really showed why in this one, scoring 31...

Gundam Seed Destiny Final Plus

A true end to one of the best Gundam series's ever.
This movie is everything the last episode of Gundam Seed Destiny should have been. All the great action, drama, and characters come colliding in one huge climactic battle. And different from the final episode, as the action comes to a close it reveals the future for the Gundam Pilots, Zaft, Orb, and the Earth. If you are a Gundam Seed fan, and felt the final episode of Seed Destiny left without closure, then this is a must have for your collection.

Finally ... closure on a great series.
If you've got volumes #1-#12, you already know you need this. There is a brief refresher, then it jumps right into the action and finally closes things off ... until the next incarnation! It gets 5 stars just because I kept looking and looking for a volume #13 - it couldn't possible end with #12 - and FINALLY found this and gave it a shot. It hit the spot and gave proper closure to the series. Enjoy.

BGreat but not worth 22$
This is the Extended episode to Gundam Seed Destiny, for those not in the know. But while it wraps up everything and extends the already awesome fight scenes. The reason this gets low marks in my books is the price.

Seriously 47mins for 22$..you can get 2h30m long blu rays on sale for that..even anime blue rays on sale or normal for that.

I highly recommend this to any fan of the series..but shop around for a better rate

Roswell: Season 2

Roswell has touched me forever!!!
Only Roswell Fanatics new and old may be able to understand my post...I have never been a "Fanatic" of ANY show and could never really understand why people could get so worked up about fictional shows...until Roswell...I am 25yrs old and have lived a pretty safe & boring life (my bar & clubbing days don't seem that interesting anymore). When the first episode aired, I watched it and was instantly hooked!!! You get so immersed in this show while watching it that everything else fades away until the hour is over. I actually felt like going to visit New Mexico, see what it is like there. In a stupid way, I wanted to visit the "crashdown" café and "see" Maria, Liz, Michael, Max, etc. I wanted to research on the theory behind the real Roswell story. I wanted to know EVERYTHING Roswellian. I finally began to see that there is a bigger and more incredible world out there. It made me a believer that there are thing in this universe that doesn't have an explanation to it and...

"What's so great about normal?"
This TV series is anything but normal, but what's so great about normal anyway? As any true Roswellian fan would respond, "Absolutely nothing!". "Roswell" was the first TV show I've ever know that had this amazing balance of sci-fi action and drama (especially in the first two seasons). Why? Because the actors pulled it off! The talented cast portrayed sincere emotional performances within a web of confusing, far-reached circumstances that made their stories and romances so real. This show does not only deal with the every day dilemmas of love-angst teens, but issues surrounding the aliens: Max, Isabelle, Tess and Michael and their search for their "real home". What these aliens discover is that home is not necessarily where you are from, or what one thinks is best for you, home is where you make it. Season 2, explores this journey with the aliens and the humans, where relationships are tested, friendships and trusts are destroyed, but most importantly,...

Self-Slapping
I never saw an episode of Roswell at all during it's WB or UPN tenures. At that time, I was working a job that usually occupied my nights, so unless it was Buffy, Ally McBeal or Friends (or something like South Park or Sex And The City that was on cable and repeated during post-prime time hours), chances are I didn't watch it if it aired between 1998-2002.

About a year ago, I was bored and found my roommate watching a marathon Roswell on Sci-Fi, he knew the show from it's WB days, he talked me into watching an episode with him... and as he got ready for work, I found myself watching the entire 5 hour block of episodes... and then I found out season one was shortly coming to DVD. I kept taping the Sci-Fi daily marathons and bought season 1 asap, and I was able to finish the entire season in barely over a week. I've seen all 61 episodes and without hesitation would say that after Buffy (my all time favorite series), Roswell is definately the second best show WB has...

Nuestro Cine Clasico: Distinto Amanecer/La Perla

Two classics of Mexican Cinema
This DVD brings us two classics of Mexican cinema, DISTINTO AMANECER (Julio Bracho, 1943) and LA PERLA (Emilio Fernández, 1946). Considering the age of these films, both copies are in very good condition, although the sound is not always perfect. The main actors (Pedro Armendáriz & Andrea Palma; Pedro Armendáriz & María Elena Marqués) are all superb. The cinematography, by Gabriel Figueroa in both instances, is nothing short of stunning. A treat for those who value a great period in Mexican cinema.

Distinto Amanecer
Distinto Amanecer is one of those movies you get drawn into. Atmospheric as hell and excellent performances from Armendariz & Palma. It is unfortunate the sound track goes "off track" on a couple of scenes and kind of makes one lose the movie magic for a few minutes. Other than that, it's a great film.

My mistake
I ordered this DVD under the impression that the copy of LA PERLA on the disk had English subtitles. I am not attempting to return it; my son has a friend that he can give it to.

However, I would like to know if a subtitled version of this film does exist. Can you give me any information on that? And if there is such a version, can you name a source for me? Thank you for your attention to this request.

Burke's Law: Season 1 - Volume 1 (First 16 Episodes)

A Unique and Funny Cop Show
The 64 black and white hour-long episodes of "Burke's Law" were originally broadcast from 1963-65 on ABC. The show then morphed into "Amos Burke, Secret Agent" for another 17 episodes during the 1965-66 season. And one episode "Who Killed the Jackpot" served as the introduction of the "Honey West" characters played by Anne Francis and John Ericson.

Gene Barry played police captain Amos Burke, who headed up homicide while maintaining a lavish lifestyle; not because he was on the take but because he was already extremely rich and was just working for whatever intrinsic value the job provided. This was the main hook or novelty of the show, which was a weekly showcase of his lavish lifestyle (chauffeured limo with fully stocked bar, mansion, and a host of gorgeous women clamoring for his affections). Although technically a mystery-adventure series there was a significant comedy element generated by the reactions of his detectives and his superior to Burke's displays of...

First Class Show, First Class Release!
A decade before Aaron Spelling gave us a long list of big-name celeb guests on shows like "The Love Boat" and "Fantasy Island" he was serving them up on this great 1963-65 detective show "Burke's Law", which starred Gene Barry as the suave millionaire playboy police captain solving a murder from which a half dozen big named guest stars were among the suspects.

VCI's release of the first half of Season 1 (16 hour long episodes) is first-rate, especially since they've never handled a TV series before for release. The episodes clearly come from the original 35 mm masters, and while not as sharp as the prints we see on CBS/Paramount DVDs, they look very good. Original commercials from the film prints have been presented as a supplement, similar to Image's later releases of "Naked City" while the end of each episode retains the preview for the following week's show narrated by Barry.

Company: A Musical Comedy

Wonderful DVD Extras Complement a Sparkling Update of Sondheim's Most Accessible Musical
Marry me a little,
Love me just enough.
Cry but not too often,
Play but not too rough.
Keep a tender distance
So we'll both be free.
That's the way it ought to be....

Only Stephen Sondheim could come up with such sophisticated couplets to a love song as disquieting as the beautiful "Marry Me a Little". I was very fortunate to have seen the enthralling 2006 production at the Ethel Barrymore Theater last season, and I'm thrilled it has been captured for posterity on DVD as part of PBS's "Great Performances" series. There is something supremely ironic about how a 37-year old show, already revived twice, can feel fresher than most Broadway musicals written today. However, when the music reflects Sondheim at his most accomplished with performers so adept, it becomes a moot point, even though several of the songs here have been inescapable at karaoke bars for years from the lips...

A beautiful production, get it for Raul Esparza
Company is one of my favorite Sondheim shows so far (the others being Sweeney Todd and Sunday in the Park with George). It's a show that requires good acting and showcases outstanding acting. The ensemble numbers are beautiful. The Original Broadway Cast recording sounds very 1970s-ish, but the revival orchestration has updated the music to sound modern and classy. The musical has three of my favorite songs: "Being Alive," "The Ladies Who Lunch," and "Getting Married Today." The show is funny and witty, but it carries a strong message, too. Marriage, in fact any kind of commitment, is a compromise. It sucks that when we choose one path, we close many others, but that's what life is about. Life is about making choices. There's nothing wrong with Bobby being a bachelor. The problem is that it's all he knows. He's never tried anything else. He's never made a choice; he's always waiting to see what other people do. In good "Company."
I saw the original on Broadway way back in 1970, and the memory of that wonderful production was still on my mind as I saw this latest version on PBS earier this year. I was astounded. It was as fresh and wonderful as the original, but in a totally original way. Mr. Esparza is the best Bobby of the bunch and the rest of the cast is simply wonderful. Nobody does it better than Sondheim, that's for sure; this score sounds as original today as it did in 1970. The only drawback, and this is just for those of us who remember the original Joanne (that perfect freak of talent, Elaine Stritch) will never be equaled. That aside, this DVD is a must for those who love theatre, musicals and Sondheim. They've finally figured out how to film a live show without ruining the theatrical experience.

The Fall Of The Roman Empire (Three-Disc Limited Collector's Edition)

Sweep, Spectacle, and Sophia Loren!
1964's "The Fall of the Roman Empire" was the last of Samuel Bronston's 'epic trilogy', three remarkable films ("Empire", "El Cid", and "55 Days in Peking"), that stand alone in their sheer opulence and spectacle. Sadly, "Empire" would fail at the box office, forcing Bronston to shut down much of his Madrid studio, but he was justifiably proud of the film, nonetheless; it tackled a seemingly impossible subject (the collapse of Imperial Rome) on a grand scale, with intelligence and a surprising compassion. The time frame of the film (the era of Caesars Marcus Aurelius and Commodus) would, in fact, prove so richly dramatic that Ridley Scott would return to it in "Gladiator", which, in many ways copies "Empire" (and would win the 'Best Picture' Oscar, to boot!)

The back story of "Empire" is every bit as remarkable as "El Cid"; this had been a pet project of Bronston's for years, and with the backing of the Spanish government, and brilliant director Anthony Mann on board, he...

Before there was Gladiator ...
At long last the epic FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE is becoming available in the aftermath of the release of EL CID. This was the movie that destroyed Samuel Bronston's studio. Much of the story would later be the basis of GLADIATOR. A terrific cast: Stephen Boyd as Livius, Sophia Loren (was there ever a more beautiful star?) as Lucilla, Christopher Plummer (in a wonderful over the top performance) as Comodus and Sir Alec Guinness as Marcus Arilias. To this add John Ireland, Omar Sharif, Anthony Quayle, James Mason and Mel Ferrer. Colossal sets and set piece battles with thousands of extras that today could only be done by CGI, this is an epic in every sense. A failure at the box office in it's time. The author, John Logan, of the GLADITOR screenplay says he was unaware of this movie when he was hired by Ridley Scott. Perhaps, the stories both use the same chapter in history and real persons. Both have Comodus die in hand to hand combat with the protagonist. Neither is true but...

Best film Oscar for GLADIATOR? No kidding.
Martin Scorsese once said about THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE that it has the beauty of a lost art. True, Hollywood can never film a film of this grandiose scale (nowadays CGI would replace those hundred of extras, but CGI can never be as good as the real thing) that deals with profound themes, usually considered to be "commercially unnatractive". Still, if cinema is an art form (and the Oscar people pretentiously call themselves Academy of Motion Picture "ART" and Science), then they should sometime try to make a film like that, or at least honour them when they are made, instead of praizing such well-crafted nonsense like GLADIATOR. Hollywood has forgotten its rich history and heritage. What a shame.

Square Pegs - The Complete Series

Music GONE!
They took the cheap way out and didn't license most of the great 80s tunes as heard when the show originally aired. In some places it's obvious, like when Marshal introduces a Minor Threat song while DJing at the school radio station and they play some generic dreck. Other times, it's more subtle, like every scene in the diner originally had music playing in the background, and now there's just nothing.

I used to watch this every Monday night, and then the kids at school would all talk about it the next day. Sadly, the show died a premature death, which was a bummer as I always wanted to see Lauren and Patty grow and get over not being part of the in-crowd. Oh well, we can all pretend Patty became a famous New York sex columnist ...

Now to the DVDs. I've seen the set and all I can say is, "Totally New Wave."

Fans of the show will be thrilled to know that all the episodes are here as they were originally presented - crystal clear, with the Waitresses and Devo's appearances intact and the full 24 minute running times. Of course, we have to suffer through the awful canned laughter, there was no option to get rid of it.

This show brings back memories for sure, and it's hard to believe it's been over a quarter of a century. Is that even possible?

on a much higher level than almost anything ever done about high school . its also funny as hell and done at at a time where most high shool characters were student body president or head cheerleader, now most teen characters are cooly reflective outsiders. This show is long over due but is arguably the best comedy about TEEN life ever

"GREAT BUT A LITTLE LET DOWN"
This is a great box set indeed, i give it 5 stars for the unrated version of the original toxic avenger and the awesome and very gory part 4. it gets 1 STAR FOR THE RIP-OFF PART 2 THAT IS NOT UNRATED AND HAS MAJOR GORE CUT OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Toxic 2 is R-Rated version!
Great box set - nicey packaged and at a reasonable price.My only gripe is that toxic 2 is the R-rated version and is missing many scenes of extreme gore which helped make up for the weakness of the sequel.Even Kaufman points out that this is the cesored version in the audio commentary.A shame that the UNRATED description as pointed out by amazon is a lie.BEWARE!!

Essential Bookend Box of Brilliance!!
All episodes of the rare and impossible to find Toxic Crusaders TV series are featured in this 7-disc set. Only 4 have been previously released on DVD and getting the entire 13 episodes alone is worth the very affordable price of this set.

But, apart from that, of course the director's cut versions of the four classic Toxic Avenger films are included as well, along with the feature length documentary "Apocalypse Soon: The Making of Citizen Toxie", making this the most complete, affordable and essential set of any great filmfranchise.

You may have one or more of Toxies films already, and to be honest, without at least the first one no collection of important horror films can be taken seriously. (You might even, and possibly mistakenly, have picked up the R-rated version of the best film in the batch: Citizen Toxie: The Toxic Avenger part IV".) Lon Chaney Collector's Edition

You can sell stuff cheaply if you steal it
It costs a lot to properly prepare silent films for video editions. One must obtain the original film, restore the film, prepare a digital video master, and commission music. Thus, purchasers of silent film on DVD usually get what they pay for -- and this "Collector's Edition" is no exception.

Shameless St. Clair Vision has copied "Ace of Hearts" from the TCM/Warner DVD Chaney set, they have copied "Hunchback", "Oliver Twist, "Outside the Law," "The Shock" and "Nomads of the North" from the Image Entertainment DVD editions, "The Penalty" appears to be from Kino's DVD edition, and I strongly suspect but am not certain that "The Phantom of the Opera' originates with a VHS tape from Video Yesteryear (it is the 1929 sound reissue edition run at an appallingly slow 16 frames per second). Of course the tints and musical scores from their source copies have been stripped off, so these editions are somewhat degraded and entirely b&w with often-inappropriate needle-drop scores...

Lon Chaney rarities at a low price.
I can't bomb this set.
It is what it is....a bargain DVD set offering half decent to not so great prints of Lon Chaney films from the 20s.
The films include:
Phantom of the Opera(1925)-Not a good print,like most public domain versions.The 1929 rerelease version.
Hunchback of Notre Dame(1923)-Half decent print.Buy the Image version if you really like this movie.
Oliver Twist(1922)-Pretty good print.Image has a better print available,though.
The Trap(1924)-Genuine rare Chaney vehicle is not a horror film but a drama about revenge against a man scorned.
A good Chaney performance.Not available anywhere else on DVD.
The Penalty(1920)-Essential Chaney.Sub-Par print.Go with the Kino edition of this one.
Shadows(1922)-Okay print.Image carries best print.(at 24.95!).
Flesh and Blood(1922)-REALLY rare Chaney film about Chaney's escape from prison and his plot for vengeance.
Good Chaney film,avaiable only on this set.

Buy for Flesh and Blood
The Chaney fan will probably already have most of these films on authorized editions elsewhere, but you probably wont have Flesh and Blood, this set is merely worth it to pick up this title, as far as I know this is the only dvd available with Flesh and Blood on it, if you do not have the Trap either this is a good place to grab this film as well, The Trap is also avaiable through Alpha Video and is most likely the same print as this. So if you dont have either of these Chaney rarities then this set is worth it, but only buy this set for those two films, Buy the other more well known titles on the authorized editions they are worth the extra money for better transfers.

De verdad les recomiendo estas peliculas y que mas teniendo las dos por el precio de una. No se arrepentiran. Les traira sonrisas y diversion en las noches de familia.

Cheers: The Complete Ninth Season

Season 9 DVDs, Cheapened
After waiting years, seriously, for this release, I was really upset to find the episodes are edited, songs are removed, and all 5 discs are shoved into one standard sized DVD case.

The distributors really cheapened the integrity of this otherwise wonderful show. Of course fans should still buy it because afterall, seasons 10 and 11 aren't out yet and the company won't do them unless this one sells okay. Just be warned, you may watch it and your favorite scenes and songs are missing.

BEWARE! Edited content
Aside from sporting new packaging and a 5-disc format for Season 9, there's a little box on the bottom of the back which holds that most dreaded statement for any fan: "Some episodes may be edited from their original network versions. Music has been changed for this home entertainment version."

Since it has been several years since I have seen these shows, I won't be able to determine what has been changed, but I felt compelled to alert potential buyers that the music royalty hounds have savaged another classic show. These monopolistic behemoths must be stopped.

Beyond that, it is another season of Cheers. The video and audio appear to be excellent. So 5 stars minus 1 star for the edits.

I have to say...it took forever for Season 9 to come out - a little too long in my opinion. While shows that have not been heard of in ten years and have had no real air time - they release their seasons back to back every 4-6 weeks, while we wait years for a show that won 6 Golden Globes; 65 other wins; and 138 nominations. There are a couple of down sides to this Season, and one of them is the music that others have mentioned - especially the "I Fought the Law" scene - I had to rewind it a few times to try to hear what song it way - - still have no clue - and it makes no sense. I did also catch the swearing as well. Otherwise, I am happy to have it - it has been too long. The case it came in is awesome - although it does not match my other ones, it's all good - most show seasons do not match anymore due to them changing the cases. Hopefully Season 10 will arrive in a decent amount of time - 4-6 weeks perhaps. Cheers to you!!!

I bought this DVD set for my grandson and he loved both the movies. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to laugh.

Best buy of the year so far
I loved the mask with Jim Carey. The Mask 2 was just a bonus. I bought this movie for my kids 10 days ago and it hasn't come out of my daughters DVD player since the first night. My son and daughter say its one of the best movies that they have seen in a while and they are movie buffs.
